Here is a shot of my magnetic tank bag w/rubber backing on bike.   Here is the underside of the tank cover.  I used large flat washers. Bent them to match the contour of the tank cover insides. Used double stick cloth tape to attach the washers to the plastic. Did this with the bag attached to the outside so I could place the washers in the right spot to meet the magnets. Bag is secure as it needs to be and seems to work well so far. | ||

Vaughn, have you gone on any long trips with it yet? I am looking at getting a tank bag to take with me to appleton, just unsure of how well it will stay on the bike while on the interstate during trip. | ||

There is virtually no wind blast on the bag. Your arms and chest box the bag in so little chance of it getting knocked off. It is not as secure as when connected to a metal tank but with the rubberized backing it seems to stay put as the magnets do make contact with the washers I mounted. I pack mine with lighter stuff like rain gear, glasses, gloves and such. It works good for light duty packing, easy on, easy off. No straps to fuss with and mark up the finish. | ||

Vaughn - the washers are a great idea. I had a none magnetic Buell tank bag and made these to mount it. Very solid. I have had between 50 and 60 pounds in the bag, hey better than taking the car, and it did not move at all.   | ||

I harvested magnets from some old PC hard drives for mine. They are very powerful but they only "aim" one direction so I figure they'll be perfect (if not too powerful...). I have yet to mount them though. I having been looking (not real whole heartedly mind you) for a way to mount them to the inside of my airbox cover. I can't bend them, so it needs to be some sort of epoxy. | ||

Roc, What about the rear? I've been looking for similar mounts after seeing a Buell XB with a tank bag - mount using the tank cover bolt holes. It looked as if the bolt head has a groove to seat a ring that can swivel around it. Had not luck in finding. | ||

I just tie the webbing around the tube that the front of the seat tabs onto. When not in use I tuck all of that webbing under the corner of the seat to clean things up. | ||
