Maybe it needs its own thread, I didn't get a response in the adjustment thread I had... My exhaust actuator stopped going full travel. I bought and modified one from an '04 to work on my bike. It got me from 1/2 travel to 3/4. I finally had to lube the valve on the muffler to get the actuator to fully rotate the valve. What should I use for lube that will hold up to the heat? Does anyone else find that they have to do this? |

Neverseize? I've seen pipefitters use it on steam valve stem threads and I use it on Norton-style exhaust pipe nuts. |

I think neverseize dries out and gets sticky after a while. But you made me think of graphite powder. Isn't that what is in neverseize minus the liquidy part? |

Jason, I hope you don't mind me piggybacking on your thread with a related question. Does the ECMSpy test of the exhaust actuator report if it is not going full travel? I had a couple of CEL instances on my '06 Uly during the Altoona Res Ride. I hooked up ECMSpy a few days later and sure enough the stored codes were for the exhaust actuator valve as diagnosed roadside by Dano. I tested the exhaust actuator valve and could hear it open and close and ECMSpy didn't report anything amiss. Does the test measure for full operation? |

ECMSpy has no clue howfar open or closed the valve is. You can disconnect the cable between actuator and valve, and not get an error code. In fact, I don't believ ECMSpy really tests it at all- it merely powers it to cycle it through it's range, and you are the tester, observing the valve to see if it's functioning. |

Jesse, I don't mind at all. I didn't use ECMSpy and actually didn't have any reason to believe anything was wrong, no codes etc. I was just following the service manual that said to check it at 10,000. It says to take the cable off of the actuator, then pull on the ferrule until the valve in the muffler is at the end of travel and mark the cable with a sharpie. Then hook it back up and hold your throttle at WOT while keying on. It will cycle open and closed and you are supposed to make sure it comes to the mark you made. Mine only got half way there and that's how I got to this thread. I haven't seen anyone else post that they have had this problem though? |

Jesse, you've probably got broken teeth on one or more of the gears in the actuator, which may be why it's throwing a code. I don't know the part #( Froggy? ) but the updated actuator has metal gears. |

I've got a wanted to buy add in the classifieds for one of those actuators. The new part number is in there. I wasn't able to find one and they appear to be back ordered. I bought one off an 04 and modified it to work. There were multiple people offering to sell theirs in that post if you are looking for one. |

Jon, you're probably right about the broken teeth. I haven't had a code since the Res Ride but I must get in and check out the gears and whether the valve is opening fully. There's an interesting post on here about a fix http://badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/32777/3 95999.html?1222220243 Thanks for the part # Jason and pointing me to the Wanted section, can't remember when I last looked in there.
