Guys, is some cracking in the fabric at the root of the belt teeth normal? I've got 10,000 miles on an 06 xb12ss. If I bend the belt back a little to look at the teeth, it seems like every tooth I look at, the fabric is cracked at the front root. It doesn't seem right to me. Isn't the belt supposed to be a lifetime belt? I don't wheelie at all. Thoughts? |

whaddya mean 'at the root'? got pics? and yes, its sposda be a 'lifetime' item, but it is prone to failure. and how many miles does your average motorcyclist ride in thier lifetime? |

Looks to me like the pulley has worn through the top layer of rubber coating on the belt. Find a cheap back up and see if it holds up to continued use, I imagine with the wear showing, failure will happen with sheared teeth. Isn't the "fabric" a kevlar weave though? Also suggest comparing it to other belts of the same age with local Buellers to see what kind of wear they're seeing. |

Littlebuggles Posted on Tuesday, May 31, 2011 Find a cheap back up and see if it holds up to continued use... No such thing as a cheap backup. Best to buy the replacement belt when they are available. A new belt is about $200. I wouldn't trust a used one any farther than I'd want to push the bike home. Last year, if I recall, belts were on back order most of the riding season. |

I would check the pulleys and see if there is some material in there causing on issue. Some of the "teeth" look like they have scars on them which might indicate debris on the pulleys. I think the common suggestion is to get a new belt and install it, keep the old belt for a backup because the old stretched belt goes on a lot easier on the side of the road than a new belt will. |

NOTHING to be concerned with. That's normal wear on a belt, ride and be happy! ....and stop bending the belt the wrong way, that's bad for it. |

+1 on stop bending the belt backwards. Mine was replaced under warranty because a tooth came off. I wanted the old belt for a back-up (didn't happen). Ride it and get a spare. Don't worry about it. |

Thanks for all the info guys. I'll get a spare and keep running her. BTW, I had to bend it some to get it to show up in the pictures. It really wasn't bent as bad as the pictures make it look. I do know that isn't all that great for them. |

So, follow up on the bending the belt backwards... There must be a good story on that to get 2 tings. Is there? It has to bend backwards some right? It bends backwards over the tensioner. |
