I have been living with intermittent coughing, lurching, spitting, and popping from off idle to around 3K rpm since my bike was new. Thought about ECMspy, but installed the Erik Buell Racing Pre-programmed ECM because I liked the guarantee, and I do not know didly-squat about programming. After 3 rides and some 40 miles of town and country riding I can make a tentative statement that life is good and I am happy. My '08 XB12Ss starts better, idles better, accelerates better, and does not have any of the low speed surges I had before. There is no additional vibration, pulls from below 2,000 rpm going up hills, and dead smooth well before 4,000 rpm. Aside from greatly improved low RPM drivability, I notice different cooling fan characteristics. Before the fan hardly ever came on until I shut the engine off, then it would run forever. Now the fan cycles on and off anytime the bike is warmed off and I am above 15 mph, but has not run on after engine shut down. I got the ECM configured for the Drummer SS that I have installed, only other engine mod is the breather hose mod. So far, for me, this was a worthwhile quick and easy change, wish I had done it long ago. I followed all of the instructions to the letter, and it paid off!!! |
