the 03 XB9 i just picked up is a sweet ride...i have a litte chatter when braking..i swapped out front tire/rim/rotor/caliper/line and master cylinder (race rotor/8 piston caliper/2 mil line/19 mil master)..still have the chatter...went to retorque the stem nut..thats when i saw the top tree had a crack in it...not so sure its the problem..waiting on a new top tree to see if thats the problem...was wondering if anyone else had this problem and what you found JT |

Did you check the steering head bearings? |

i didnt go that far yet... bikes only got 3700 miles on her...i would be surprised if the bearings were shot |

I would be surprised by a cracked upper triple too, but that apparently happened so the bearing are worth checking. |

The steering head bearings occasionally need to be tightened on virtually every XB. When they are loose, they often produce a clunk, more than a chatter. About 50 lb.s of torque is right, with the bottom triples loosened, if I recall correctly. |

Did you check the steering head bearings? Didnt I say this when I was there last week? Oh yeah I did. What do I know. Change the pads too... Oh and get a manual. (Message edited by hammer71 on May 31, 2011) |
