I had my side rails powder coated and just put everything back together a few weeks ago. Took it out last sunday and it wasnt running right. I actually ran out of gas even though my fuel light never came on. Added fuel and it still wasnt running right.

Basically how I can explain it is when I am on the highway the bike seems to be surging and sputtering. One second it will catch and take off for 10 seconds then it will sputter agian. Almost seems as if it is dying. I took it up to my local buell dealer and they got an error code about my engine temp sensor. Could that be just coincidence that they got that error code?

It feels like the gas isnt getting through to my engine or something. What also happens is when i am in second gear going steady at 4000 rpms my bike will also like sputter and slow down slowly and if i let off the gas and twist the throttle again it will catch and take off. It kinda felt like it was only running on one cylinder or something. Took it to buell dealer and they coudlnt find anything except for the bad engine temp sensor.

Should i run some fuel cleaner through it?

Oh and i did sand down the spots where the grounds touch my side rails so that it is grounded properly

Please help me THANKS

Did you also clean the areas where the side rails contact the frame? Needs to have good ground there as well.

i did clean the area where the side rails touch the frame. I guess i can look at it and clean it off some more. Is there anywhere in the headlight assembly that is grounded? I didnt sand down anything on my powder coated head light assembly. That could be the issue. I am certain everything on my side rails is sanded off well enough for grounding. I did both spots where side rails touch the frame and i did the 2 spots where the grounds touch half way up the seat

Haha, you didn't tell us you had the headlight modules pc'd as well : p

Yes, there are grounds up there, and they are crucial to the functioning of the bike. Not sure that they would cause your issues...but they should be addressed wither way.

In addition to the frame/subframe mounting faces, there are also the faces between the side rails and the tail section. It essentially connects both sides. Yes, it matters enough to need it.

I don't know about that- I had a fiberglass Rizoma tail piece on my S for thousands of miles with no issue.

I don't remember about the S, but my X doesn't have and grounds connecting to the right rail, so it becomes somewhat irrelevant when chasing grounding issues.
