Thanks to Keith (Trynitrox) today I finally got to hear the famed Drummer in person. Keith and I only live 20 minutes or so away from each other and he was nice enough to bring his 03 9S over so I could have a listen (I have an 03 Firebolt.) The results (which I captured as an .AVI through my little digital camera) actually surprised me quite a bit. Firstly, the Drummer is NOT "louder" than the race pipe. It's throatier - more baritone - with a very pleasing rumble. The race kit muffler is perceptibly the same in terms of overall "loudness" but does not feature as low of a 30dB (approx.) subwoofer-like rumble. The race pipe is, as Keith and I both agreed, much more "raspy." Off-idle throttle response is also much better with the Drummer (this could be a TPS issue on my bike, however -- though I doubt it.) I drove Keith's Lightning (another story, wow!) and at speed, his bike (same setup as mine - Race ECM, K&N, 12 airbox cover, no snorkel) was noticably more linear, had a better transition from the low-end to the midrange and pulled right up to street-speed high-RPM action. In short, VERY smooth, VERY nice! Excellent for the street. My bike definitely lacks the low end his has and is more "peaky" in the mid and higher RPM ranges. I'd really like to ride them back to back on the freeway to ascertain the differences at 70+ Sound level-wise, they are (from a total dB output perspective, using my EARS as the measuring tool) almost exactly the same. I was surprised by this. I expected the Drummer to be MUCH louder given what others had mentioned here. Next up, I want to hear a D&D in person next to my race pipe and Keith's Drummer. I will find someone and we will meet up and do this over again. All and all, if street driving was my measuring stick, I would definitely pick the drummer over the race pipe, but freeway driving (which I mostly do each day) is another test for another time. I will upload the (albeit low quality) sound clip of the back-to-back and simultaneous sound/movie clips of both bikes. SHort of the raspiness, it's hard to tell the difference at idle and on the throttle (with the bike at rest.) Well done, Drummer dudes. Very impressive. Chris

thank you we do our best. I am glad you did this, I've always said the drummer wasn't that loud |

Chris...Good comparo. If performance (not loudness) is your criteria, I believe you will be pleased with the Drummer and can find the dyno charts in the KV. If not, I am sure Bubba can direct you to a source. |
