Hi Guys, I'm a little confused. I want to make sure my intake assembly is correct. Here is how the service manual shows it: Here's mine: Underside This is the 'race' kit right? Is it correct for the Breather hose holes to be used for the top cover bolts? Also I want to make sure the velocity stack is put back on correct. The Baseplate assembly sits in between the lower flanges on the velocity stack correct? Sorry I hope this is clear what I am asking. I am putting a K&N filter on and i've had a wierd 'whistle' from the intake when I blip the throttle. I noticed it after I took it apart a few months ago. One of the lower rubber gromets that the intake cover bolts into was loose, I think that was creating the 'whistle' Thanks guys! |

Thanks Froggy! So is everything else looking ok with my assembly? My cd-rom manual didn't seem to have real detailed info on this |

What Froggy said, and if you put the baseplate between the two lower flanges and make sure the rubber grommets and bolts are tight ,then it sounds everything is mounted correct! ps: don't forget to check if there is a rubber cap on the little elbow on right-side of the throttle body.

I'm glad you mentioned that. There actually is NOT anything over that and I was gonna ask cause it appears that there was or should have a hose connected to it. Is it disconnected when this intake kit is installed? What is it for? Thanks again for the help! |

I'm lazy - I just put the airbox base down on top of the two flanges on the intake horn and bolt'er down. I take it off so often that I just got lazier and lazier. |

See I think that was how it was installed when I bought the bike...Then when I re-installed it I put it in between the two rubber flanges and it created a better seal, thus making the whistle sound. Its not real loud, I just think its the air entering the filter/motor assembly... |

Little elbow was for the Evaporative Emissions Canister connection. Plug it and forget it. |

Make sure the oil breather hoses are rerouted properly to a catch can of some sort |

Thanks Bicyclebob, I did get a plug for it. Streetdemon-Sorry, I don't think I have any catch cans, this is something that runs off the intake? |

"Catch Can", you only need one. Route both of your crankcase breather tubes to a "T" fitting, then route a tube down to a catch can. Drummer makes an awesome catch can, it comes complete with all the hardware you need. |

Well I believe so...Here's what I did yesterday- I plugged the vent that you mentioned earlier and I also re-installed the airbox base plate over the rubber flange as Slaughter had mentioned (not between the two rubber flanges). Took a test ride and the whistle is gone...So it was either of those two things. The bike is running good though! |
