Hi, I am debating getting this kit but also see alot of DIY heat shielding mods from users as well. So comfort kit owners, let me know if it make a difference. Thanks. |

I only have one part of the comfort kit on my '10 XB12Ss; the heat shield on the rear header. I got one from American Sport Bike that has jet-hot sterling ceramic coating on it. I rode with just that last summer and while I got hot sometimes it did help and that's the bottom line to this reply, but read on for more... I just finished installing new headers with the same coating along with the shield. I also covered the inside of the frame with Thermo-Tec heat shielding and installed a seat heat barrier from Special Ops. It's not hot where I am in Virginia quite yet (although this weekend is calling for temps in the mid 80's and I'm planning a ride on Sunday) so I don't know the full extent of the benefits to all I've done but I've done a few rides and haven't noticed the heat like I did before the mods. I'm contemplating a right side air scoop next but want to ride with what I have for a bit to see how it does by itself. -TK |

Here's what I did for my 9R... Large right side scoop, make a huge difference to the engine running cool so the fan does not always come on when I get off the highway, well worth the money. Wrapped the headers, once again way less heat on my leg. Also less of a chance of wrecking my textile pants on the hot exhaust, no more burns on my hands when I'm working on the bike while it is still hot. DEI heatshield on the seat, once again makes a huge difference on long rides and while idling through traffic. The heat can still soak up through the seat, but not nearly as hot as before. it is nice to have a warm weather and cold weather seat, or be able to remove the heatshield when it gets cold. On the slate for this summer is heatshield on the inside of the frame/tank and on the airbox baseplate. The fuel still gets very hot after long sessions at city speeds, and the heat soaking into the intake air can't be real good either. Heatshield under aircleaner should be removable for colder weather where the heat can help warm the motor faster. I would probably piece meal the parts above. Hope this helps. So where can the right side scoop be purchased separate from the rest of the comfort kit? |

American Sport Bike http://www.americansportbike.com/shoponline/ccp0-p rodshow/A17360.html It is a kit with the inner, outer, and screws. This one may fit, but I'm not certain: http://www.americansportbike.com/shoponline/ccp0-p rodshow/9160.html Or possibly the small version http://www.americansportbike.com/shoponline/ccp0-p rodshow/17359.html If you search for the right scoop, you'll find the dealer part numbers and you can order the inner and larger outer from your dealer, then get some stainless #10-32 screws to hold them together. |

FYI, we normally stock them but the inner part of the scoop has been on backorder at HD for weeks. We have a BUNCH on order, and I have the outer halves in stock already, but until the inner halves get there, we're out. Supposedly next week they'll start shipping again, but their published BO clear dates are notoriously unreliable. Al |
