love my Xbss to death, usually takes 500 miles or so, but it has only taken 300 miles to bond with this bike. I really dont feel the need for the Drummer, Erik Buell Racing ecm and K&N air filter, bike runs fine as is. But now I'm gonna beat a dead horse! The heat! Mostly under the seat, feels great actually when its 65-70 outside, but when it get up above 80, I have a feeling its gonna suck. I ordered the full size RSS, I'm hoping that helps alot, it seems the main source of heat is the rear cyclinder head because heat pours out of the gap in the frame where the rear master cylinder reservoir is. The frame itself doesnt get that hot (from header) but the rear subframe is super hot (near the rear master cylinder reservoir.) whats the best fix? Odie's heat blankets, RSS, Ceramic coating headers, all of the above? How about drummer, ecm and k&n air filter, do they help it run cooler? very happy with the bike otherwise (Message edited by canyonwlf7 on May 08, 2011) |

I have a Drummer and race ECM, I think they are defiantly worth the price. |

If you haven't already, get the latest ECM flash from HD. It will change the fan program and keep the bike much cooler. The fan won't run as long, if at all, when you shut it off either. It is much better. I used to have a very hard time with the heat in traffic, but it is much much better now. |

I have a 2009 XB12SS. I put on the large Buell RSS, and wrapped my headers with DEI Titanium header wrap. I feel like it made a big difference, and the fan runs a lot less. This header wrap doesn't require wetting, and you don't have to remove the headers. Brad. |

When you put the right side scoop on, you may notice it directs more hot air straight into the bottom of the seat. I have ordered a couple of heat blankets from Special Ops to fix this. |

Not knowing how much I would need, I bought a 2"X50' roll of the stuff. Pretty sure I used just under half of the roll. Now, if I remember how to post a pic...

Awesome! I love that look, and if it helps cool things down, all the better! |

It's really easy to do. Got metal zip ties at AutoZone, make a couple wraps up high and then slide it up to the top of the header and work your way down. |

I entirely agree with getting the latest ECM flash with the new fan logic. Made a big difference with my XB12Ss. Then I added the full size RSS and it made an even bigger difference. |

"I entirely agree with getting the latest ECM flash with the new fan logic" I assume my local Harley dealer can handle this? |

Yes, you don't wet the DEI titanium wrap, which makes it really easy to do. Or re-do. |

Any Harley dealer that services Buells should be able to do the flash update for you. I got mine done for free during some troubleshooting under warranty, but I've heard it's about $50 shop-time. Maybe more on a 2007 because of the TPS reset (easy on 2008+, but more of a process on the pre-2008 as I understand). |

Thump4fun, His profile says 2007, but I do believe the bike in the op picture is a 2008. You can tell by the motor and frame color. I don't think the 2007 and older can be remapped for the new fan program. |

Thanks for the correction George, I didn't consider whether the ECM flash would work on a pre-2008. And I also didn't look closely enough to notice that's a 2008 Thunderbolt motor. But at least that means Canyon can get the latest fan logic and do an easy TPS reset, so it's all good! :-) hmmm...I wonder what year his bike actually got registered for with his title then?

I hear ya man just bought my first buell the heat really caught me by surprise. got myself an 07 stt and absolutely love it. The heat was just a little more than I had expected no big deal though just make myself a heat barrier the rest of the bike is perfect for me. |

What's the RSS? I am not familiar with that. I have been thinking about getting the Uly style right side scoop and ceramic coating the header to help with heat. Any thoughts on weather the ceramic coat or header wrap is better for heat? Mine's an '04 so it sounds like the ECM flash is a no go for me. |

I ordered the titanium wrap, heat barriers from Odie and the large RSS! I'm also going to go ahead with drummer and ebr ECM. If all that doesnt fix it I'll be depressed. |

My right upper leg used to burn during the summer -- maybe it was Erik's way of conducting anti-squid operations, because it stopped me from wearing shorts. LOL! But just the newer fan logic and the RSS together made a HUGE difference. I expect with everything you're doing, your bike will feel almost cold in comparison. |

The heat shields from Odie and header wrap will make the most difference. A pipe isn't going to be any cooler LOL Sound better? yes, run cooler? sadly no |
