bought a digital slim HID kit for my firebolt (9r)...installed everything properly and while the lights work much better, turning the hight beam on while riding causes the bike to either miss a spark or misfire =[...the kit is some xantec ebay brand, nonetheless the bulbs are only 35W... i'm considering adding a capacitor for the obvious amp draw...anyone had such issues? any suggestion would be appreciated |

Did you use a relay harness? |

Have you checked you battery voltage when this is happening? |

i did not use a relay harness, as i thought 35W should have never resulted in anything like this...as for the battery, i think it just might be it...the battery is some cheap cycle gear garbage which i got almost a year ago. and since i have no means to test it, I'll just go pick one up from the dealership... as for the relay harness, what would be the benefit of using one? |

Sounds to me like your cheap purchases over time have finally caught up with you. I would suggest you try the harness with a relay. |

well, evidently, my cheap purchase did catch up with me... just put the new OEM battery in and all my problems disappeared... looked up the wiring schemes some of the people came up with here of the forum to lengthen the ballast lives so i guess that will be the next step. thanks |

Yeah, don't risk it even with 35w. The initial draw of 2 35w ballasts might be putting heavy load on battery at startup (remember they have to ignite first!) I bought 2 car relay harnesses and hacked them up, but there is probably better/easier alternatives floating around here. |

I don't know about that brand...but the ddmtuning.com units are capped at a max of 6 amps draw on start up. While that is more than the stock bulb draws, it's nowhere near enough to cause issues with stock wiring. The stock bulb would pull about 3.75 amps at 14.7 volts (amps=watts/volts) |

Some of the China built 35 watt kits start up at as high as 7 amps, and run just over 3 amps after they are lit, quick simple math .... 3amps x 13volts is actually 39 watts, thats your main headlight. turn on the high beam, (7 amps x 13 volts= 91 watts for a few seconds, you are probably coming close to 130 watts, when you light the high beams, or 10 amps or so. I would suggest leave the high beam alone, and run a relay to the low beam, that you use all the time, using a separate 12 gauge wire, from the battery, and use the stock hot wire from the low beam to be the relay trigger wire, that would unload the system probably enough not to have a problem. the other possible thought is you might have a bad ballast |
