What suggestions do you all have on adding some more leg room for the wife on the back? She's starting to feel a bit cramped back there with her nice long legs. I've looked at the 1" drop pegs from Knight Designs, but I don't feel like 1" is really all that much and I can't find 2" drop pegs for the passenger. Any suggestion for more passenger leg room? This is on a XB12Ss Long version. |

Could you get some spacers made for the top part of the passenger pegs? It seems like some rectangular blocks with a hole through the middle and a longer bolt might work. I'm not sure what that would do to the crash performance of them, but a 1 or 1.5" spacer block + lowered pegs should make a world of difference. |

I hadn't really considered extending the width of the pegs any -- you pose an interesting thought. So I just double-checked with my wife on the width part. She's really just looking for a little more length so her legs/hips don't start cramping up. I'm back to wondering if $75 to add one little inch is really going to do much for her or if there's something else out there that people have done to add a little more passenger room then that...??? |

Ah, sorry. I was unclear. By "passenger pegs" I meant the entire assembly/bracket, not just the pegs. I'm talking about putting spacer blocks between the rear passenger peg bracket and the frame to lower the entire bracket down some. |

Oh, okay, I see what you're saying now. Hmmm....that combined with a 1" drop peg might actually work really well! Of course, that means fabricating something to make it work, which is beyond my existing skills. Maybe something exists for that on the aftermarket...I'll start checking around for that now too. Thanks for the idea! |

I don't know about your model, but I was able to swap the passenger peg brackets left/right on my 2003 XB9R and modify the pegs to fit on the opposite brackets. Didn't cost anything, just my time to make it work. The results move the pegs down and forward about 3 inches both ways. My wife was pleased with the results and was then able to do long rides in relatively more comfort than when stock. I did a short write-up on this forum about the mod some time ago. |

I have a 2008 XB12Ss...hmmmm...I'll have to take a closer look at how that might work on mine. I hadn't considered something like that. Thanks for the idea Sparky! |

OK, I found the post for early Firebolt owners. Don't know if this mod will work safely with your bike, but it's worth checking out. |

So today I took off the footpeg mounts and swapped them left <=> right, like Sparky mentioned. Looks like doing that would move the pegs forward about an inch and down about 1.5 inches! A step in the right direction for her long legs and hip flexors. However, in order to make the mounts bolt flush I'd have to carve out a bit of the seat frame. Not much and not any deeper then the existing indentation, so that doesn't really concern me. Plus I'd have to drill a set of new holes to mount the footpeg guard. But when I showed the wife, she decided she'd prefer to just have lowered pegs first. So I guess I'm back to buying a couple 1" lowered passenger pegs from Knight Designs. I did email them to see if they could make a 2" lowered peg for the passenger (like they do for the rider pegs) but I haven't heard back yet. When I do I'm also going to see if they can make the Uly pegs fit the XB so she has a much wider peg. Unless someone else has some other suggestions, I'm going to order what I can for lower and wider pegs. If that's not enough to make her completely happy, then I'll move on to swapping the mounts left to right. Thanks all. |

UPDATE: I talked with Alicia Knight over at Knight Designs. She's modding up a 2" drop for the XB based on the Uly pegs for me -- how awesome is that! Put a package deal together to order that plus new matching rider 1" drop pegs and a set of axle sliders as well. Can't wait! |

I saw a guy on the Uly section a while back, what he did was made these L shaped things that lower the passenger pegs a bit more. I can't recall his name, I'll have to search. |

Rwven makes them. I don't know if they will fit the XB pegs or not. |

Thanks Froggy. Although those look like they might do the trick, I've already ordered everything from Knight's. |

you'd be surprised by what an inch can do. . . . that's what she said! |

Hijacked for the obligatory sexual innuendo. Should have seen it coming but surprised it took this long.

Thump- I just installed uly passenger pegs on my 9r with very minor modification to please the lady. Way cheaper than Knight's, but good job supporting another member. |

Arctic - So, were you also getting that slight whining noise developing from the rear of the bike after about an hour or so? Or was this a preemptive brownie point build-up before the big day with Kat? :-) Seriously though, I did look at the Uly pegs but I found them to be about the same price @ $36 each peg (or I was seriously mis-quoted). So I figured for a few dollars more I could get a 2" drop. Of course, that turned in to me getting new pegs and sliders too, which wouldn't have happened with just getting the Uly pegs. LOL |
