I've seen a lot of XB12R bikes with Lightning tail sections. Can the same be done with an XT? All the frames are the same right? I love the leg room on my XT but would like a Lightning front and tail. |

frames are not the same. Our Ulys do share frames with the SS and STT tho. That would work. Heck, you've already got the seat rails under the Uly seat! |

Andy, I know what an STT is but not a SS. I would go for a STT conversion. |

Pretty much the only thing that a XT has in common with a Firebolt is the motor and wheels. Different frames, subframes, swingarms, and pretty much everything else. The front fairings will bolt right on once you get all the parts, but a Firebolt/Lightning subframe will require modifcation or custom brackets to fit. |

YES, you can do it but the frame is slightly wider at the back, so you need to 'spread' the XBR subframe slightly to make it fit. If you want to use an XBS or SS rear end then you can use the stock Uly subframe which is cast to accept the S tail (although some of the lugs have not been threaded, so you need to do that). You would also need the under tray, tail unit/light, battery box and other bits to complete the job. If you can get a complete rear end including subframe it would be easier still and would be a simple bolt on job. One thing you will have to relocate is the suspension preload adjuster as it won't fit underneath like it does on the Uly. I found space under the seat to mount it but space is tight I did it in 2006 with our race bike, which started out as a Ulysses, transformed into a Supermoto (before the XBSTT was released) with an XB12SS rear end and seat, and then into a pukka road racer with a XBR rear end and seat unit. All bolt on stuff with no major fabrication required
same bike 6 weeks (and a few late nights)later and a few lbs lighter

Trojan. What faring and exhaust are in the second picture? What I want is a bike similar to that but with the stock XT peg location and street legal. Bitchin bike BTW. |

The fairing is a Buell race fairing made by Sebimoto in Czech Republic. It is similar to the Sharkskinz fairing sold by Hals. The exhaust is a Free Spirits 'Reverso' race exhaust system that exits at the front rather than at the back as you can see in the picture. This gives much longer mid pipe length and offers increased mid range performance Here is a pic with the fairing off.
By the way, once you have the subframe sorted out you are not limited to fitting the XBR seat unit. We found that a lot of the Jap Sportsbike tail units could be made to fit onto the Firebolt race subframe and anded up using a GSXR1000 K1 seat unit on our bike to give the rider more room to move around...
