Ok here is the issue: when I ride my xb12ss it seems to run rough and spits and spudders. It does this inconsistantly some times it is a real bear. others it doesn't happen at all. I've found in the short term if I just 'blip' the throttle, it goes away for a bit. I only really happens on 'maintainance' throttle. To describe the symptom more, its like its only firing one of the cyclinders while this happens. Also sometime when it does that (not always) the check engine light will blink evenually leading to constant on if I continue with out stopping. When the check engine light goes to constant on the problem stops altogether. It happens on all sort of conditions hot engine, cold. hot air cold air. but if I had to say, the most common time it does it is during hot weather/hot engine. any guesses? |

Check plugs and plug wires, 12s are notorious for rubbing through plug wires. Also check battery connections. Your sporadic symptoms most likely mean something simple. After all is said and done do a TPS reset and you should be golden. |

yeah I was thinking pretty much the same direction. I do know it is not the battery. though it need replacing I check and charge it regularly so if it is the sole issue I would be a bit upset. |

Might look for a variance in the exhaust pipe temperature. Without burning yourself see if one is noticeably cooler. I'm assuming cold bike a minute or so ago. This, if lucky, will tell you which cylinder is the problem. Another thing I've noticed, on my race bike anyways, is that the ejector electrical connector at the throttle body gets loose or plain falls off. Remove the right side scoop and feel up there to see if this is the cause. If it is turning the service the engine light on it will store a code that tells you what system the problem lies in. |

Since your check engine light came on, it probably stored a fault code in the ECM. Check it before you start shooting in the dark. |

I'll vote for faulty O2 sensor or wiring. |

plugs and or wires tps injector connector ECM O2 sensor this is going to make a very fine weekend. probably, I will run the code and see it what it says corisponds with what you guys are saying. second I plan on replacing the plugs and wires pretty much any way because it is getting about that time (i understand the race ecu wears them quicker) other than that I'll work the flow chart of easiest to hardest to check. thanks again. if you all have any more suggestions I am all ears. |
