I'm about to split the cases on my Uly so I can remove my bad crankshaft and ship the cases off to Darkhorse for installation of a 2008-2010 crank. I figure I'll split the cases, remove the crank, and then reassemble the cases for shipment.

The shop manual calls for a "gear detent assembly aid, P/N B-45520" to be used to hold the spring loaded gear detent out of the way when the two case halves are put back together. Here's what it looks like:

You apparently remove the neutral switch, hold back the gear detent, and stick this gizmo through the hole to hold the gear detent out of the way. Then you put the case halves together, and pull this piece out, releasing the gear detent.

It looks like it'd be easy to use a bolt or piece of wooden dowel to do the job. Anybody here ever split their cases and know what will work in lieu of the factory tool?

TIA

Since you are pulling the motor down, it would be a great time to send the transmission and get it checked out and back-cut...it will shift much better.

Harry- when I get through with the rest of this I doubt there will be any $$ left for tranny upgrades.

Rotor- thanks! I'll try that.

What about an old neutral switch with maybe some epoxy on the end if it needs to be longer.
