In my quest to mount Givi racks on my new 9R, I found some closeout Givi mounts at local shop that are for a Heritage or Fat Boy. I'm going to have to make some custom brackets, more on that later... For now I need to figure out how to bring the blinkers in much closer to the rear brake light. I really like the stock blinkers and had no plans of changing them, but will have to for the bags to fit. I know some people have put new blinkers on, but are they close mount? Any suggestions? I want them to be as bright or brighter than stock, because I do ride in traffic everyday and safety is important too! |

Yeah, that looks good...if they're bright. I'm in the cities...live in St. Paul, work in Mpls. Ride back and forth and all over town often. The race pipe has already solved my problem of being "land changed into" 3x this spring. An old lady in a POS Tempo tried it the other day as I was passing her so I gave it a little throttle so it would bark...and she moved back in her lane. That's better than my Suzuki could do! Miasto, what blinkers are those? do they have to be clear? Are they bright? Are there similar ones for the front (I'm kind of big on symmetry)? |

Those are Lockhart Phillips blinkers. They come in smoke, clear, amber and some others. They are very cheap, like $15 here at a local dealer. I have a pair but I haven't hooked them up yet so I don't know how bright. Mike. |

The LP blinker are not all that bright honestly. I, like you, want visibility, and personally I wouldn't go with them if you ride in traffic a fair amount. Honestly I'm still looking for a good option just like you're describing. Once you get that rack setup completed, please post, I've been thinking about doing a very similar thing. |

Boulder: I just verified the same thing about the LP brightness. I know someone with them on a Ducati and they look cool but when I ride behind, I can barely see them! I'm going to look into maybe shortening the stalk on the stock blinkers. Or does anyone have a recommendation on another brand or style that could work well? I'll definitely post info and pics once I get the rack setup built. |

I went to a cycle shop tonight to see what they had for short blinkers, only LP ones that I didn't like. So I went home and hacked up the ones on there. I was able to gain about an inch of clearance, basically they don't stick out any farther than the side of the rear plastic section. Sorry, I couldn't find the digital camera so I used a camera phone, and the images are crappy. First the long blinker, after the seat was already taken off... This is the rubber stalk, and where I cut it off. After cutting, I carefully carved it down with a utility knife to be the same square profile as the original end. Then I put it back on, this is the still disassembled bike with a short stalk on. And finally, the finished product, and my helper who wouldn't get out of the way. I tried to cut the rubber so that it was a snug fit and had to be pressed on tight. After reconnecting the wires, I used a zip tie inside to pull them together so that the blinkers hopefully won't jiggle loose and dangle. While I had everything apart I took some measurements for the Givi mounts and will draw up something to be machined soon. |

The small signals from Kellermann are bright and small... they're a little too "insect" looking for me, but they are small and bright. http://www.kellermann-online.com/site/english/e_index.html |

Speaking of insect looking, a friend told me the front blinkers look like bug antennae because they jiggle so much at idle. He thought it looked cheap, I kind of like how it accentuates the roughness of the idle. People think your bike is going to shake itself apart just sitting there! I haven't decided yet if I'm going to shorten the front stalks also. I guess I'll see how robust my handiwork on the rear ones is first. If they don't fall off after a month maybe I'll do the same to the front ones. I suppose if they do come loose I could put some epoxy in there to make them hold tight, not a big deal really. |

Coldwthrrider, the idling bike is quivering, snarling, quaking to go ride while you stand next to it putting on helmet and gloves! Add some straight pipes for the whole effect. HAHA!!! |

Sherm: I see your straight pipes in the profile pic, did you do that yourself? Looks nice! I like the race can that mine came with, and the bark out both sides. This morning while leaving for work I was reminded by my wife that it's too loud! |
