Hi all. Just got a new 12R (about 1100mi so far) and wonder why the factory suspension settings are not matched front to rear. The rear spring preload is factory set to position 2 (corresponding to 140-160lb rider per table in manual) while the factory fork preload is set to 4 lines showing (corresponding to 220-240lb rider). Also, when I set the settings according to the table in the manual for 160-180lb (I'm 175) the natural (bike w/o rider) sag in the rear is almost zero while the front settles in maybe 2 inches or more. Doesn't quite seem right. I've setup many motocross bikes and the Buell factory settings seem more appropriate when just looking at sag. What settings are you 180lb riders using on the 12R? Also, just got a Drummer and will be giving some feedback after I put some miles on it. Only comment now is it is way louder that stock and I hope I can get used to it. Ears ringing after about a half hour ride around town. I am craving more power since I ride at 6000' and higher but don't yet notice much diff with the Drummer & K&N. Got to wait for the ECM to catch up. |

I'm no suspension guru but mine was all out of whack when I got the bike too. The dealer even said it was set perfect for my build...WRONG. Anyhow, the Drummer will break in after you put on a few hundred miles and you won't notice the sound like you do now.. |

I like the factory settings and I'll start playing around with them after about 10K miles. |

I set mine according to the book and it handled like a squirrel on roller skates! Took it back and let my mech set it up (soft) and am running tires 4lbs under. Much better now. |

Thanks for the reply. Still, any specifics as to the preloads you guys are using? Also, what do you mean by the Drummer will break-in? You must mean my ears will become accustom to it. I did notice the drummer is packed with a material. Will this packing burn out after use and the muffler get even loader? |

Vaughn Wear ear Plugs seriously everyone should its the wind noise even with a full face helmet that will damage your hearing. other than that, On the 12's as stated the power gains are only 4 to 5 hp with the drummer, so seat of the pants is hard to feel. They are greater on the 9's because they don't have the interactive exhaust. No the packing will not blow out, we use a different packing than what is used(not loose) and we also have a lil trick that prevents it from blowing out. what he means by break in is yes the packing gets settled and some have said it does get louder, but it definately is not the loudest pipe out there. as far as feeling a difference that is actually a good thing that you don't , that means the power has stayed smooth without any dips in the power band. as far as your suspension setting goes, follow the manual and adjust from there, if you know how to set up static sag , go ahead and do it that way, I am way over 180 lbs so I am not sure what you skinny folks do. when I sit on a bike it definately sags |
