Well I used to be on here about nine years ago, used to have a 96 S1. A friend, Torqd, has posted several pics of my old ride. I'm glad to be back on a Buell just got a XB12R, and looking forward to being back on here! I got this bike not knowing anything about Xb's just knowing I liked how they look and figured it would handle nice. I figured this bike for being bone stock as my S1 was well worked over. Maybe it's not as stock as I thought.. I can't seem to post pics, I don't have a computer, and this smart phone is smarter than I am So I am trying to figure out what's on it so I know where to go from here. I got into the air cleaner, looks like no snorkel, and no cable for muffler. The air filter looks like a K&N that is still white, never been oiled. Looking into the ECM it is a black box with y0152.3A805073 on it, stock probably? But between the headlights is a box that reads Twin Tuner Daytona Twin Tec, an add-on box I guess? And exhaust, the muffler is I believe silver ceramic w/ two outlets each outlet looks to have a smaller dia. pipe inside a larger one and says "off road use only" any ideas? If it's not the stock muffler would it be on the stock header? Also the area where a rss goes is a piece of plastic it seems like it would not allow air to flow up in there, I would think at least taking that off would be a good idea, but it was designed to be there by someone smarter than me so maybe there's a reason for it. Anyone that can help get me up to speed on these parts, I'd appreciate it. I've done some searching but again, I'd rather have a Buell than a computer. Thanks again.. Oh and it's an 05 |

welcome back!!! as far as the pipe goes the stock buell pipe only had one outlet. The buell race pipe has two outlets (one on either side) but i think they were the same size, and it should say "for race use only"....not sure about yours since it says "off road use" |

Yeah, Welcome back! I think you have the race muffler. I don't know about the twin-tuner thingy. There is a tiny right side scoop that sends air past the fuel lines that is a factory piece. If you look at the large RSS from Buell, it has the smaller one built in to it. Pics have to usually be resized. If you can set the size of the pic on the phone, you probably could get em uploaded that way. |

I've been lurking around here since mine was totaled in Dec of 09. I can't wait to have another. Ride safe! |

Sounds like a Buell race can to me. They have a pipe in a pipe thing going on. I would suggest a (big) right side scoop. Is the air filter white with blue rubber around it ? If so it's stock. That Daytona thingy needs to be deciphered but is probably just enrichening the air/fuel ratio a bit. You have an awesome bike and will surely have all of your questions answered here. |

Thanks everybody!! I'm glad I remembered this is the second place to go after gettin a Buell again, first bein some twistie roads of course My filter doesn't have blue it's black and it has that screen that follows the filter paper like a k&n, maybe previous owner just never oiled?? I've thought about a right side scoop but searching just showed me that some get 'em and some say ya shouldn't. Kinda like the whole "heads vent into the air box mod" just doesn't seem to be an overwhelming majority, sort of a bummer since I'm itching to do something to it since it's still crap weather in the middle of Illinois. Maybe xb9 primary gearing.. Oh well any opinions or ideas are appreciated!!! |

The no RSS thing was due to the aftermarket scoops blocking airflow to the fuel rails, and in extreme conditions, can cause vapor lock. The official RSS's have a mini scoop inside the scoop to prevent this. |

The daytona is an add on enrichener. There was one on my 09 12r when I bought it. Maybe it wasn't set up correctly but the bike never ran quite right. Made a world of difference when I took it off. If you can get access to a computer google "Daytona Twin Tech". They have all their instructions posted online. |
