Can anyone out there tell me if it is possible to reset the tps without taking it to the dealer? I will be ordering the race ecm for my 12r this week and would prefer not to spend the extra money. It probably on ly takes the techs about 10 minutes to do. |

ya spend 20thousand and buy ur own digital technician machine and software otherwise u HAVE to have it reset at the dealer but save about an hour of time by taking the ecm and some tools with u and installing it yourself in the parking lot edited by 420at145mph on June 15, 2004 |

Yes !!!! Snap-On tools make a gizmo that is able (with the correct software) to re-set/adjust the Throttle Position Sensor. Having mine re-set as part of the 10k service tomorrow by an independant HD/Buell specialist. BTW the gizmo cost no where near 20k,try a 10th of that and you'd be nearer the right price (well in the UK anyway) edited by stoobr2 on June 15, 2004 |

I'll try and get some details today, when i'm having the TPS re-set on my 9s. Do you not have a Snap-On rep who could advise? as for the software,it's avalible as a fellow Buelligan had is X1 re-set awhile back. |

Stoobr2 your talking about a scanalyzer. That only works on 9's not 12's.You need the digital tech for 12's |

I'll take a scanalyzer. You say Snap-on sells them? |

Are you sure you don't need the Digital Technician for resetting the TPS on XB9's also? Aren't the TPS's for both models identical? I thought the scanalyzer was for trouble codes or diagnostic testing. I'm not sure. Mike. |

As I understand it the 12's TPS is more "finicky" and the scanalyzer is not good enough... |

I just checked it. Page 4-102 of the XB9 Service Manual says quote:Note - Throttle position sensor can only be calibrated using Digital Technician (Part No. HD-44750).

I think the scanalizer was for older buells and the harleys with injection. The 'digital technician' came with the xb series, but I could be wrong, I'm open for correction Look here: http://www.technoresearch.com/VDSTS-PC.htm Look at the product features, then look at the price (third column is my best guess) and then look right below the table (buell motorcycle coming soon!). So rejoice 'cos SOON we'll be able to do it all ourselves! |

The reason it says that you must use the digtal tech in your manual is because HD didn't even have the DIGITAL TECH in the dealerships until a year or so ago.The scanalyzer is a dated tool or the old way.The 12 is much more sensitive. |

That is the best news I seen for a while. Price isn't too bad either. |

Sorry for the delay in responding. It was indeed a scanalyzer that was used to re-set the TPS on my 9s.I think the software/lead from the older (tube frame) models is compatable, excuse my vaugeness, the independant HD/Buell specialist I was using did'nt want to let to many details go! besides I was on tea making duty (Us brits love our tea). The gizmo showed I had had no error codes in the last 10mths/10,000mls,and the bike was running very weak, the idle/tickover has now been re-set to 1050rpm as incorrect tickover speed can also affect the correct functioning of the TPS? I'm no tech-head so I would'nt know if the same gizmo could be used to re-set the 12's TPS I guess it's only a matter of time before someone tries it ? |

It's been tried many times and generally it takes multiple time to get it right. I think it's fairly random. |

Do you have to reset the TPS if your helmet rolls off your seat at the gas station? |

Only if it scratches the visor or dings the helmet paint. |

I recall reading somewhere that the TPS for XB9 can be reset using Scananalyzer, namely based on the voltage reading. |
