I have been suspecting my oil pressure switch was not quite right lately so I decided to remove all doubt as to what is going on. With the engine hot, the oil pressure is about 26-30 psi at cruising speeds, increasing w/ rpm. Anyone else tried something similar on an XB? I will probably find a more permanent mounting location but I like the results. |

where did you tap into the oil line at? |

I have an Autometer Procomp Oil Temp gauge on my XB mounted in exactly the same place. The Oil Pressure gauge is going to be next on the other side. I put a T in right at the oil cooler. Works great. |

Just another place for a possible oil leak to start. The HD oiling system is a good one & almost never ever has any issues. So long as the oil & filter are changed regularly then I dont worry about it. besides on a hot day in traffic you will look at that gauge & see it reading 0 psi & probably freak out. Oil temp gauge-good idea Oil pressure gauge-not needed. |

That is true, anytime you make a connection into the oil system you open yourself up to a potential leak. |

I removed the sending unit switch completely for now. I will be putting in a stainless braided oil line as soon as I can get one from the speed shop. It should be as likely to leak as my brakes (unlikely). Where are you taking the oil temp measurement; where is the probe? |

I wanted to monitor the Oil tempature after it exits the oil cooler and starts to enter the engine. This should be the oils coolest temp reading. That is on the return line from the Oil Cooler going back into the engine. That is where the sensor is installed. Under hard riding in 70 degree weather it hasn`t gone above 160 degrees. In 90-95 degree weather it runs about 180. I`m sure the ambient temp of the oil in the swingarm or exiting the engine is atleast 20-30 degrees higher. Maybe even higher, i not sure. I plan on switching the sensor to swingarm to confirm this one of these days. |
