Hey, I was reading a thread on another board about "What's your favorite 600 sportbike?" and there were a bunch of people saying that this bike or that bike looked better than the others. The only bike that looked even a little bit different from the others was the Katana, which has soft curves instead of all those angles. Anyway, I just didn't get it, to me they all looked the same. So I used Photoshop to silhouette the bikes. And you know, now they really all look the same. So, see if you can spot the Buell below. And then see if you can name a single one of the others. If you're like me, they all look the same... That's why I want a Buell. Bike A Bike B Bike C Bike D Bike E Bike F Bike G Bike H Bike I Sean |

Hey, yer right, that's kinda fun. I can spot the XB-R instantly, but I ain't gonna reveal my ignorance and post my guesses on the others (not without seeing the tank badges, anyway...). |

Unless the pics are not to scale, I never realized the XBR was that tall in comparison. |

Overall I don't find the XBR to be that much taller than other bikes when looking at the bikes themselves. However looking at how the rider sits...that is taller. Another thing to consider is that the XB R/S are much shorter bikes in terms of wheelbase...that makes them look taller since the proportions are so different. |

Bike D (no I didnt read the thread for answers). The rotor gave it away, also the tail section. PRobably should have erased the pipes from the jap bikes |

The exhaust location (or lack of) gives it away. D |

Is it bad that I can actually tell what some of those are, besides the Buell that is? The pointy ones are Yamaha and some of the smooth ones are Honda, hard to describe the shape exactly. It's pretty easy if you're used to seeing tons of those around. On a ride today I saw tons of bikes because it was sunny and for the first time in a week it wasn't raining. Everyone was out, lots of groups of sportbikes and groups of Harleys. I turned lots of the sportbike riders heads (every cookie cutter bike you see above) when riding past while they were stopped. I cracked the throttle on my new baby and they all had a look of astonishment! I only saw 3 Buells, all old school ones. I have only seen one XB around here ever so I understand the amazement! |

I could have erased the pipes from the Jap bikes, or erased the rotor from the XB, but that would defeat the purpose of the exercise. I'm just pointing out that every single Jap bike looks the same to me. Whether they're 600's or 1000's, they all look like the same bike. There's nothing distinctive about any of them. And they all perform about the same too, depending on displacement. So boring... Kawayamazukonda - just another boring vanilla bike. That's why I want a Buell - I'm not just another boring vanilla person. |

I still laugh at the Suzuki's tail section. It looks like a "Proctologist's Tool." OUCH!!! |

The Firebolt is easy to spot, the rest are a little tricky. B and F are both Kawasakis, but I can't nail down the model. They could be the 636 and the ZX-6RR, but you might have slipped a ZX-10 in there. E is a CBR-RR. I can't tell the difference between the 600 and the 1000 without reading the stickers. I is a YZR-R6. H is a Katana. A, C, and G aren't nearly as easy to distinguish. I'd guess C to be a GSX-R600 and G to be a YZF-600R. A could be anything; Triumph, older CBR, RF600R. So, how close was I? That's good Spike. I don't have the pictures anymore, (erased them from my computer) so I can't tell you how close you are but at least you made educated guesses. The one thing is that they're all 600's, so the Kawas are the ZX-6R and RR, the Suzukis are a Katana and YZF-600R, the Yamahas are the YZF-R6 and GSX-R600, and the Hondas are a CBR600RR and CBR600F4i. Or something like that... The point is, these all look the same. Hell, even the 600's and 1000's look close enough that a guy, (Spike) who has a pretty good clue about which one is which can't even necessarily tell what size they are. Why buy something like that? I just don't understand... Nor do I care to. Sean |
