I just picked up a 07 xb12stt and the gas light is always on, on this thing! I havent had time to mess with it, but when i do, any ideas where I should start looking?? Thanks | ||

The sensors on these things are pretty neat with no moving parts. They look like a condenser from a set of points. I would suggest first unplugging the gaspump harness (Not hose) to see if the light goes out. If the light is still on, there is a problem in your harness. Otherwise, the problem will be found inside the tank. There have been instances of wires chafing in there and popping fuses. Knowledge vault has details. | ||

Here is a pdf that explains the design of the low fuel light sensor on the XB models. It may also apply to 1125 models but I can't confirm. I also am not sure if Panasonic is the manufacturer of the sensors Buell uses but they are functionally the same. http://industrial.panasonic.com/www-data/pdf/AUD0000/AUD0000CE2.pdf I have been having fun with my low fuel light since I removed the stock gauge cluster and replaced the indicator lamps with LEDs. Each indicator lamp works just fine with a LED in place of the stock incandescent lamp except for the low fuel light. The low fuel sensor allows enough current to flow through the circuit to light the led, whether the tank is empty or full. I am currently chatting with a few folks about how to design a circuit to retain the stock low fuel sensor and switch the led. (Message edited by EricZ on January 03, 2011) |
