Well, through the season, I noticed the bike leaning over a little farther now and then. A progressive happening I suppose. Put it up on the lift the other day to start changing the swingarm, and out of curiosity started messin with the kickstand. It had lots of play in it, and I had been concerned. Heres what I found.  The threads are still in the kick stand, and protrude far enough out to keep it from coming off. Thats why it never came off. I suppose the sun shines on a dog's hiney sometimes.  | ||

Mine did the same thing. It seemed to lean over a bit more than normal when I parked it. When I went to leave, the kickstand was nearly bumping into the shifter--quite annoying! Guess we're both lucky. =) | ||

I'll be making a new one today. Got a piece of 5/8 dia. 316 stainless steel. I think I'll drill out the 5/16 threads and make them 3/8 to accommodate a bigger bolt in case it ever happens again. I doubt it though. This took 18k miles to happen.  | ||

Isn't there an updated kickstand/bolt available? Mine was doing the same thing, in time it will actually spread far enough for the kickstand to fall off like mine did. I bought a used kickstand/bolt off of ebay and to my surprise it came with a different style fastener. Here's a pic of it, it's got a c clip that holds it all together and is way beefer. Actually, I think the entire stand is different to accomodate the larger fastener. I think American Superbike sells them, but if you can fab up your own setup that works, and save some $$$, even better.   | ||

American Sport Bike sells a replacement kickstand. For some reason I thought they sold the bolt only which they do NOT. I opted for a new stand instead of waiting on it to fall over. Best of luck. | ||

I thought it was a TSB too. But....in the time it takes me to go to the dealer (salted roads too), I can remove it, drill and tap the kickstand for a 3/8 fine thread, and make a new bolt to match. I'll never have to worry about it again. I'm having a heck of a time getting the old bolt part out of the kickstand though.  | ||

You are going to drill it anyway, just go to town with some drills and remove it. | ||

Its out. I saw one that someone made from a shear bolt. The size is right for the 3/8 thread, so I can drill it and make something from one of those. If I have a short one, then thats the way to go. If I only have a long one, then I'll make a new piece. I like the shear bolt idea cuz you can get a new one at a hardware store, and they are hardened.  | ||

I wound up using a shear bolt. Drilled and tapped for the 3/8-16, and turned down the shear bolt. It works fine. My only concern is it's not stainless. May have to coat it with clear finger nail polish to keep it from rusting. I'll put up a pic later. | ||

Of course, I am absolutely diggin on that one up the thread with the E-clip. Thats just dreadfully simple, and kicks ass like Chuck Norris.  |
