A word of caution...be careful what you put in writing or in public debate. Have known a few well meaning souls that ended up slander and libel suits as well as facing assault charges. Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending on your perspective) only one went all the way to battery. |

Yeacmon...Agree with you in spirit. However, some folks just push too hard at times and there are laws to protect the person that feels wronged. Applies to personal as well as business life as well. I haven't personally been involved but do know a few that have and witnessed a few more. The funniest one was when two of my competitors started an argument in front of my exhibit at an international trade show in Chicago. It escalated to the point where one knocked the other out cold. Even though everyone in the industry knew the guy that swung his fist was the one that was wronged, it didn't matter in court. Worked out great for me as it attracted a big crowd and I not only got a lot of leads, there were only four of us in the industry and I ended up with a 70% market share. The most recent incident involved two manufacturers of a line of motorcycle accessories for the same purpose. The original guy had been doing it for 15 years and the other for 6 months. The new guy slandered the original guy in newsletters and on boards like this. The original guy tried to use diplomacy in handling the situation. However, the new guy just wouldn't let it go and kept pushing until the original guy said something he should not have (even though it was true) about the new guy, his ethics, and his product. Bottom line is after all was said and done in court the original guy lost his business which was a family business. Now the parents and their three offspring (late 20's and early 30's) are in dire straits trying to find new careers. The interesting part of this example is had the original guy sued first, he would have won. Go Figure. |
