It is not possible to record the true sound of that muffler and hear it replayed. I have one on my bike...the sound is amazing....very deep bass sound...not at all brassy or tinny...I get compliments from strangers on how it sounds....mine isn't a pretty as Deans. I welded it up and put it on thinking I would try it out and if it worked ok, I would pull it off and have it coated...now I just buff it from time to time with stainless steel wool when it gets dirty.
Treefrog Dean, is this going to clear the Uly/XT side stand? If you are not sure, you can send it to me and I will do a test fit for you. Is there going to be any type of bracket on the front end? I might have to get another job to pay for one of these.
I think either one that I've made will clear the Uly kickstand without any real issues. I will be adding a bracket to the midpipe, just need to sort out how I want to make it.
Just an overlay of mine and the Uly to show where the outlet drops out in relation to the kickstand. I'm thinking it will be just fine.
Yes, some of it. I want to actually move that upstream some, but to do it the way I want, it will require either modifying the stock headers or making a completely new set from scratch.
As far as outlets go, except on the Uly, I can pretty much go any angle up to straight out the sides, although it would be a bit loud that way I think. I have one more here to do if you want one made up. Catch me on a good day, I might even throw in free shipping.
No, it's been too crappy out lately to take it anywhere. Just a guess, it will probably turn out a 7-8% gain over stock. I know other guys have done the same mod and I think that was the general consensus for gains.
Even though it's an open pipe, it's not very loud, but it's got a pretty decent rumble to it.
just got my hawk exhaust. it looks great and he sent me all the fuel maps that are tuned for it. great deal. Ill be putting it on this weekend and keep you posted how it sounds and performances. very excited to see how it goes.
Thanks. I like the louder exhaust on my Firebolt but I actually enjoy having the quiet stock one on the XT, especially on trips. Then again, the lure of more power is strong...
Just found a post stating that the magnaflow muffler makes maybe 1 hp & 1 ft/lb more torque than a jardine. If this is true, then the gains should be reasonable enough. I can't get the bike on the dyno anytime soon, but I might later next month. Until then, I can't "prove" what I did makes more power. Everything else I've done up to this point (with the exception of the very first 1125 muffler mod) has gained at _least_ 7-10% power, the highest gain was about 22-23% on the 1125 @ 8k rpm.
Btw, I just spoke with magnaflow's tech support, the shell is 436 stainless and the inlet/outlet pipes are 409. The 409 grade is prone to rusting (surface only) and the 436 is supposed to be more resistant to it. I cut off the inlet/outlet pipes and weld on different tubing to get the size and length I wanted. They also stated that the shell and endcaps should polish up ok. The shell surface seemed a little rough to me, so it would take a bit more work to polish them as opposed to the normal 304 SS custom shells I use.
