I noticed in the repair manual, it says to regularly lube the clutch and throttle cable. But it doesn't tell you how to do it. I had a heck of a time doing my clutch cable (loosen cable adjuster, detach end of cable from lever, use lube on cable, reattach cable to lever, readjust cable tension). Then I moved on to the throttle cable. It doesn't look all that easy to take apart and adjust back to where I had it. Is it worth doing regular lubing if I am not having any problems? What is the easiest way to lube it? | ||

I did the same thing you did, the throttle cables are still not done because it seemed like you had to take far to much stuff apart. Next time I rotate the engine down I may go after it from the throttle body side. | ||

I'm with Froggy - I watched a couple of lubing videos; an absurd process - I'll wait and replace it if and when it ever breaks. I will be getting a spare, though . | ||

It is fairly easy if you remove the throttle grip. As you take the housing clamps off the cables are exposed. then you can run lube down the cable housings and stick it back together. Not a big deal. | ||

I do mine periodically. I haven't always gotten it EVERY 5K miles, but it does keep things working smoothly. You tend to not notice how bad it's getting until suddenly it's working the way it should again. When not lubed you tend to have two choices. Live with it sticky, or live with a sloppy adjustment. It's not that bad of a job once you've done it a couple of times. |
