what should i do, preventative maintenance wise, before putting her all back together. They've been apart for some time while the tranny was out getting serviced, and i'm ready to get it back together. '03 XB9, 20K miles. I'm thinking replacing the bearings are good insurance, right? anything else i should do so i don't have to split the cases again any time soon? I've got the updated oil pump drive gear as well.... Send the crank out to be balanced and checked for trueness, one company I was looking at quoted about $500 for the balance job. And while it is apart might as well have the big end bearing replaced and maybe weld the crank pin. Check the cams for wear and check the bushings that the cams ride in. Replace the oil pump drive gear or the entire pump with the new style. Replace the lifters with better after market lifters. Check push rods for wear and bending, replace as needed. Check rockers and valves, might not be a bad idea to put in new valve seals. De-gunk the intake and exhaust ports so they are clean. De-carbon the heads and pistons. Check piston ring clearance and replace as needed, maybe hone cylinders and fresh rings all around. Check clutch for wear and replace as needed. Check and torque nut on primary sprocket paying attention to the newer higher spec. Replace primary chain tensioner. New plugs, new spark plug wires, new air cleaner or wash and oil air cleaner. New PCV valves or at least check for proper operation and tight fit in the rubber gaskets. (Message edited by Greg_E on November 05, 2010) |
