I'd settle for 120 at the rear wheel.

Where does that put me? Give me both sides of the "curve", cuz the XB will eat'em both.

Hi, my name is Rich. I have been a Buell addict since 1996 when I saw my first S1. When I could afford it, I bought an XB. I am in my mid-twenties and I couldn't see myself riding the same rocket that every other Joe Schmo on my block was running. All of my friends' bikes run on soy sauce and I couldn't be happier. I have to be different. I ride to the beat of a different "drummer". (Pun intended)

Most of the people in my area don't know what a Buell is. That's when the education begins.

So, throw your curves at me. The eVil Twin and I like a good challenge.

Rich

I am actually more interested in torque...instead of 120 HP at the rear wheel as some others say I would rather have 200 Ft/Lbs of Torque myself.

Nothing like hanging on to a bullet!

everyone has an opinion, and I have mine. I dont care what anyone thinks of my buell. It was the first time I have ever bought a brand new bike. I liked what i saw. I am not a professional racer, I liked the sound of the engine, and I really liked the part about what Mr. Buell said. A real motorcycle designed for real world riding. For me it fits perfectly, and I wound not have chosen another, although I am really liking the xb12 lightning.....

Remember all Bike manufactures toot their own horns every time the New Model year rolls around. Buell might say They are happy with the XBs, But I would be willing to gamble they are brainstorming how to squeeze more HP and all around performance out of the coming years. You can't still for too long. Look at the Big Fours Litre bikes this year. All but the GSX-R1000 have released major upgrades, and people are flocking to them. Hell, who doesn't want a ZX10 sitting inside their garage next to their beloved Buell. If they can't get the HP rising every couple of years, a new motor is a must.

Here's a little insight from a current Buell buyer who is 28. A few years ago I said "I want to buy a Buell but I won't until they put the V-rod motor or something similar in it." So I waited, shopped around, and obviously the DOHC motor hasn't hit Buell yet. When it came time that I actually could buy a new bike I looked around and nothing excited me as much as the XB_R's so now I'm getting a used one. The test ride sold me, but I already wanted it pretty bad anyway. I was not so excited about the cost when comparing to others with regards to engine performance for the price range. If the motor was higher revving or more HP for the same price I would have been more attracted. Or the current bikes could be a couple grand cheaper to compete in their "HP class". My point is that I was hesitant due to the current motor (the 9 anyway, riding the 12 blew me away). I agree that something with a little more HP and higher revving would sell more bikes, which is a good thing. The more bikes sold, the more independent Buell will become financially and the more cutting edge engineering they'll be able to afford for the future!

Full circle or Mid life crisis.

Nah, I actually did the midlife crisis deal back when I was 30. Really freaked me out for some reason.

Ken, it's not every son that gives his Dad credit for being raised up right. Your Dad must be very proud.

Really freaked me out for some reason.
Funny feelin' ain't it.
Hard to explain, and then when you do try you end up just sounding silly. Probably because you're trying to explain it to a female.

Maybe the HD mothership doesn't want the Buell moco to get too big, just keep it as a niche sport sideline to help prove HD's credibility. In the meantime, we still get our Buells, and everyone's happy. We don't need Buell's to be sold to the masses just to make us feel we bought the right bike.
On the much beaten HP blah blah blah old motor blah blah topic has anyone lined up their XB12 with a late-model TL1000R or a SV1000 lately? I did on a short track and the Buell held its own no worries, so I ask a question, if the Japs can't build a Buell-thrashing 4-valve DOHC air-cooled V-twin then what is everyone's prob?
Last point, what's new for 2005? I feel the XB's are already out-handling most bikes and the HP more than sufficient unless you want to race it, and the stability is excellent. I don't need WOT to escape 99% of bikers on winding roads, so I wonder what would I expect for 2005, I guess there may be a couple of intuitive Erik detail improvements, nothing major, just minor but definitive refining of the existing XB. And maybe some "out there" paint.
To look at Buells, where they came from, where they are now, in such a short time, and to perform so well, there is genius behind it.

I, for one did'nt buy my bike to drag race, and
did'nt buy it to ride around town spinnin 6000 +
rpm to get it to move out of its own way, I bought mine to ride to work during the week, and play, on the weekends..my 12 definately does both
great, I had looked hard at a Kaw Z1000, and could've bought it waaaay cheaper than the 12, and I betcha Dyna got his R1 cheaper but I had lusted after a Buell for 2-3 years, and after seeing the new XB'S had to have one, my only regret was not riding an R before I bought....went from an s, to an r, the thing is
that these bikes get more positive comment from people young and old than any boy racer bikes would, and many young guys saying "my next bike is gonna be one of those" the only drawback I see is that young riders DO look at hp # and price, where Buell doesn't compete..but as a street bike that you can take to the track, not a dragstrip we know they are more than equal....
