I just know it's a pain in the arse, and you need a fork compression tool. The fork has to be disassembled. |

There are some good threads on the subject, use the search feature and you should be able to track down all the info you need. I fabbed up a compression tool, but you can also use a ratchet type tie down strap. It really isnt very difficult, and the parts needed are not expensive. While you have things apart, change the slider bushings as well as the seals and dust shields. Once it's back together, keep an eye on the fork tubes and give them a quick wipe after each ride to keep the grime from building up. I made the mistake of not wiping off the gooey remains of a fat honey bee, and road grit stuck to it and killed the seal in short order. |

(also rebushed) since i havent washed it in months and it just started leaking i am thinking its not wear. just some crud as mentioned.. sure wish the manual was a little more clear. i did a search prior to posting and did not find much....may have to dig further... |

Call Al at American Sport Bike. He can get you the parts you need. I believe I spent $42 all together for oil seals, dust seals, guide bushings, and slide bushings. I made a fork spring compressor out of metal pipe and two bolts. For a seal driver, I used pvc pipe and a hose clamp. I had a friend's help during the reassembly process, and don't think I could have gotten it put back together without the extra set of hands. "does the whole fork have to be dissasembled to do the seals?" The damping rod assembly doesn't need to be removed if all you're doing is replacing seals. |
