I'm 400 miles from my laptop on my xb9. My dad and I are doing a ride on the coast but my bike is taking a crap on me! I need to know how to know how to do a tps reset without my comp because She keeps on going crazy! Its bogging down like crazy and doesn't want to accealerate at all or Nothing. When I let off the throttle its starts to luger and stuff its all bad u still have about 200 miles left. Can anyone help! |

I don't think its possible without knowing the voltage on the tps sensor. (Message edited by terrys1980 on October 15, 2010) |

i dont think you can do it on an 03 with out a PC/ECMSPY pull the spark plugs, wiggle test electrical connectors, and try some fresh gas? |

Can't be done without some kind of computer and the proper software. Even if you somehow used a multimeter and got the voltage of the TPS sensor, you still have no way of reprogramming the ECM to set it to 0. |

thanks for all the help guys. i made it home now my bike really disappointed me but il get over it. so ya i got home and did a trouble code check and i got trouble code 14, 24,25. but while i was riding like i felt like i wasnt geting power when i would twist the throttle. thats y i thought it was the tps thinking maybe the sensor was bad because it would reset it self but then if i did any type of aggressive riding it will get all choppy again. it reset it self about 3 times and that was it 3 times out of a 4 day trip. is it the ecm or the sensor or what can it be? if u have any questions please ask i really want my bike back again. shes a 03 xb9 and i just broke 4k miles. yes very low. |

08 manual...... TC 14 is engine temp sensor hi/low or sensor voltage low. Could be caused by poor connection of the ECM harness connector or damage to harness. The ECM provides the 5 vdc power to the sensor. TC 24 is front ignition coil control circuit hi/low. Could be caused by an open ignition coil or loss of power to the coil. TC 25 is rear ignition coil control circuit hi/low. Could be caused by an open ignition coil or loss of power to the coil. Let us know what you find! Husky |

Sounds like mine when the race ecm was taking a crap. Mine didn't do it until 20k + though. |

Check the battery voltage. Low voltage can throw all your sensor reading off leading down a rabbit hole of chasing false problems. It's an easy check to do, so eliminate that variable first. |

Low battery after a 400 mile run? That would be at least about four hours of prime charging. Doesn't fit. However, good call, if the battery isn't fully charged, you'd have to look at why. |

Batteries are NOT FOREVER things. I missed 3 races this Sunday when my battery wasn't taking a charge any longer. Check your voltage (engine/systems off), if you're reading anything close to 12.5 volts, you are going to be very iffy on being able to get her running after a start. Diagnosing on the 'net is tough but checking the battery is CHEAP and you don't have to tear into anything. My problem was that I had a "donated" battery ... and it is at least a couple years old now and it just died on me. |

the battery is fine cuz when i run it on ecmspy my o2 sensor voltage is 49-50v which i read is the right voltage. and the battery is at 13.8 volts when the bike is running. so its getting a charge. thats what makes me confused. but im not sure about the coils im not sure where they are and what they do?? but there my next guess. also i did do some changing to the timing maps awhile ago and some changing of the fuel maps. i think the fuel maps are fine but i think it was the timing maps that probably caused all this. cuz i was told that if the timing is to high u will hear a very loud rattle when u accelerate and when it was acting up during my ride thats exactly what i heard a really nasty rattle. |

Okay, battery sounds good. Put the stock map back in and start from scratch. Don't take this as rude but if you don't know what coils do, roughly, then you probably shouldn't be messing with the maps. On our bikes a loud rattle could be anything. The last place I'd look would be the electronic timing. |
