I just bought a 06 Uly with 4,400 k and the dealer said it was serviced but the oil was black, so I put a few miles on it and went to unscrew the oil drain plug and the threads came out with it. 10 miles on it and now it is landlocked. I here there is a Timesert that will work for repairing these, has anyone used them? Also I didn't take the seat off to see if the tool kit was there, and it wasn't. I need to change the rear tire as it has some cracks, what size it the axle nut with the female hex? I am in my 60's and wanted a bike to ride the gravel roads here in NE but I think they seen an old fart that they could unload it on, of course they said it was perfect when it left the dealership on Sat. (Jap bike dealer) Thanks Jim |

American Sport Bike has a replacement for the axle tool. http://www.americansportbike.com/shoponline/ccp0-p rodshow/9153.html for the drain plug maybe a heli coil will work. |

Also known as 22mm. Even once you buy the American Sport Bike or Buell "axle tool" (basically 2 nuts welded together), you will still need a 22mm socket (or 7/8" as posted above). You need to go back to that dealer and make a big PITA of yourself. May not work, but you should feel a little better. Overtorque of the drain plugs is very common, as the Buell manual had an incorrect (too high) spec for several years. Got to the Big Bad and Dirty forum (for Uly XB12X's), and see the New Owner Information link near the top. This is a great collection of knowledge from many of us that have owned these bikes since the beginning. Especially important for '06's (like mine), since there were many small changes made in later years (and even in later built '06's) to address some annoying problems. |

...and get yourself the manual (you can download from the Big Bad and Dirty forum header page), and preferably, the '06 Service Manual. It is an excellent service manual (aside from the bogus torque spec on the 2 drain plugs) for a fair price. You can get into trouble applying "typical" motorcycle practices on a Buell, since Buell's are not designed just like every other bike. Even rear axle torque has a procedure that needs to be followed to endure proper belt and bearing tension/loading. |

Thanks for all the info, does anyone know if anyone has a time-sert 0122a kit? Looked on E-bay and they want $100.00 for them just to fix one hole. (Message edited by Johndeereb on October 06, 2010) |

Use a Heli-coil. Faster, cheaper, and easier. |

I believe there is a self tapping oversize drain plug you could use. Try an aftermarket HD shop. |

Post up in the BB&D section looking for a helicoil/timesert kit to borrow. |
