It's a long story (don't ask) but when does Buell usually gear up for the new year models? WYD |

Last year, the XB12's were posted to Buell's website July 14, 2003, and word leaked out about a week before that. I haven't heard much in the way of rumors this year, so maybe there isn't any big news for the 2005 model year. |

yeah... I haven't heard anything either but I had traded my '04 12R in for an '04 Harley FXDX and now I'm jonesing big time for a 12S. Not sure if I'll keep the Dyna or not but I don't want to do anything if the 05 models are only a few months away (even if there is no significant updates for '05). WYD |

You won't hear anything, but they will release the info in July, that's what I hear down here. Don't count them out that they don't surprise us with something. It might not hurt to wait a few more weeks before anyone makes a new bike purchase, just to see. |

Perhaps a limited XB12SWL (white lightning) will be offered for '05 in keeping with the S1 & X1 tradition. Just produce white surlyn flyscreens, add the needed white plastic from the '03 XB9R, wheels from the '04 XB9R, silver frame and swingarm, and blue ceramic header. Instant parts bin "Special" |

There is at least one new change... But, I'm not sure I should be the source of a leak. We have placed a preliminary order for our '05s. The press release will be in July at the dealer meeting. Hold tight. My opinion: FXDX and an S... Nah. The FXDX makes a good platform for a sportable tourer (FXDXT) but the two bikes are too much alike for me. |

Im awaiting for the July suprise. The FXRT was my favorites, hard bags, fairing and the greatest cornering clearance. |

Indeed it does, fun to see this company grow. Makes an owner proud. |

Wasn't the original XB9R shown for the first time at the Laguna WSBK race event? That's coming up in early July... That's when the Honda concept "America" circulating one of the other posts earlier was shown for the first time as well. Erik Buell classic quote at the time was: " Great. Theirs is a concept bike and ours is going into production". Stay tuned I say... |

The FXDX makes a good platform for a sportable tourer (FXDXT) but the two bikes are too much alike for me. Torqer, I see these as two totally different bikes. I see the FXDX as being more of an "SUV" - heavier, more comfortable (especially for longer rides) but not necessarily as satisfying from a performance standpoint. On the other hand, the Buell is more like a 'Vette. Fun to ride, high performance and looks that will turn heads. However, I wouldn't consider it for touring. To me, the seating position and heat from the exhaust and rear cylinder fan get very uncomfortable on extended rides. Of course, this is just my personal opinion after having owned both. I know there are a lot of Buell owners who tour regularly with their XBs. Net/Net: I could easily see owning both - depending on what my finances are looking like once the '05 Buells are out. WYD |

Hate to burst some bubbles, but I hear its to be the same bikes, just different colors, etc. No sport tourers. |

Hehehehee.. Colours.. Colours are cool.. Depending on what they come up with.. it'll make 'customizing' our bikes easier.. You know? 'Hey, I dig that new Green, Red, Blue, Purple, Pink, Orange, Yellow, Mauve .. surlyn.. I think I'll snag a set and voila! Instant color changing bike! Later,

Peter, I think Buell should produce the bodywork in a rainbow of colors & offer it dirt cheap. The process of producing different colors is incredibly easy & wouldnt cost Buell anymore $$$. I know with my X1 that it came with black bodywork & I bought an entire set of orange. I could change out everything in about 25 minutes. |

(Wishful thinking here.) How about a second bike series based on an altered XB chassis- longer wheelbase by providing slightly longer frame and slightly longer swingarm, maybe slightly less radical steering geometry. Longer frame provides increased fuel capacity and more room for passenger. New bike provides basis for S3T and M2 replacement. |

Yeah, I think it'll be a somehow enhanced fuel capacity XB frame w/ slightly less radical geometry. Extended swingarm and tail section with hard bags and redesigned body work. Anyway, yeah, what Whodom said . I really doubt we'll see water cooling ANY time soon (and quite frankly I'm NOT looking forward to it anyway). I would like to see dual overhead cams though. |

and 4 (or 5?) valves per cylinder. But I've heard that the tubers might come back. |

I doubt the tuber idea unless they can't stretch the XB frame for a touring model. Yes, four valves per cyl and about 7800 RPM's for the 12. I would LOVE that. I would be a fan of something "completely different" ala Ducati's valvetrain systems but I'm sure Erik want's to keep everything very simple. |

I just got back from a cross country trip. Granted it's still early in the bike touring season, so factor that in. Drove from Milwaukee, across on I-80 to California, then over the hill to NorCal and up into Oregon and Washington, then back eastward across Oregon, southern Idaho, northern Utah and back via I-80. Of the few bikes I saw on the open roads there was one 'busa with luggage, a couple of Goldwings, one Victory (?) towing a trailer, one or two Harleys, and the rest of the bikes with luggage were all GS style BMW's (over a dozen seen in multiple states). Granted that this is a very limited sampling and very early in the season for riding cross country, and it doesn't count the various bikes I saw unladen (like the nice S1 and the XBS up in Virginia City). But if you want to know where the competition or market potential is then look at the GS model BMW's. Suitable for long distance riding, suitable for a variety of roads and conditions, suitable for two-up riding, and holds a decent line in the corners. For those of you looking for Buell to come out with a Sport Tourer, know that you are asking them to compete with the Hayabusa non-squid market and the BMW-GS market. The full cruiser bagger market is best left for the Harley division of the Motor Company Corporation. Just some thoughts and words to ponder or purge to the bit bucket, your choice. |
