Hey, all. Looking to fit the OEM headlight grille on my XT, but wondering if anyone has fabricated a custom design. Seems to me gravel would have no problem shattering one of the lights with the standard version. Pics are a plus, of course. Thanks (Message edited by buellyxt on September 15, 2010) |

You could always secure some lexan with zip ties to the oem grill. |

I've drove over 3/4 of a million miles, and only lost one headlight to a rock. I lost two of them to a telephone pole and they both had rock guards on them. I have went through a lot of windshields though. One on the same pole. No rock guard on it. |

The headlight grill is purely cosmetic, but I have hit stopped cars and haven't had the headlamp shatter.

Yeah, an aesthetic touch to be sure. I generally like the look of the grille, makes the bike look a little more menacing, despite its practical shortcomings. Perhaps I'll get some wire mesh, paint it, and zip-tie to the grille. Froggy, even the mounting brackets are still solid after your "mishap." Nicely done. |

I took my bike for state inspection (Virginia), and the guy made me remove mine since you are not allowed to obscure the headlights in any way ... good thing the factory ones are easily removed. Hopefully your state is practical, if not, might want to make sure your's can be taken off quick. |
