Help needed. I have an issue with the speedo on my XB9s. It seems to intermittently drop it's reading. Going along at around 90MPH and it will start to bounce around sometimes going down to zero then jumping back up. I found today that it does it a other speeds as well. It seem that when I wind on the throttle, the speedo starts to jump. I thought it might be bad or loose wire. Any ideas?

Thanks

D

If it dies altogether it's shot. There is an upgrade kit available Part Number Y0199.K

And it will die.

For now I have heard that if it is intermittant it could be due to a build up of metal on the magnetic sensor. Mine looked like a hedgehog when I removed it.

So, remove it and clean it. RHS of bike top of engine casing requiring one allen key bolt removed. Pull it out nice and square as there is an 'O' ring halfway down the approx 1.5 inch sensor.

Good luck, mine's dead at the moment too.

Also do a search on the BB under sensor if you are insterested in the why of your problem.

Thanks Gaz.

Just checked it out and it seemed fine. Not much on it. I'll check out the wiring tonight.

The 9s has a regulated supply to the sensor. It was the one bike coming from the factory before the 12s that should NOT be blowing sensors.

Give it a good cleaning (the tip is magenetic and collects a lot of metal), make sure the connectors are clean and snug, check the routing of other wires (don't want to cable tie that wire to a spark plug wire ; ).

So not to say it *can't* be your sensor, but it is a lot less likely on your bike then most other Buells / sportsters.

(note to self... I wonder if there is a different part for the 9s's versus the 9r's, since the 9s's are already regulated and would not want the inline regulator...)
