Well, I'm headed over to Afghanistan soon to whoop up on some bad guys again. Sadly, I can't take my bike with me. On a good note, my bike will be stored in a storage unit on a pit bull stand. Some pointers as to what all I should do for about an 8 month storage would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all. |

Drain the gas, remove the battery. Hell it doesn't even really need either of that, mine sat for 9 months after a wreck, and still fired up once I charged the battery. The gas and oil was fine. |

Here's what I do for winterization storage, usually 5+ months: Fresh oil & filter change Full tank of fuel w/fuel stabilizer (to cut down on condensation in the tank & keep the gas fresh) Pull the battery and put it on a tender Put it on stands, front & rear Detail the exterior and give the plastics a light wax Toss a bike cover on it and... wait for spring! |

Just wondering why you would pull the battery instead of just attaching the Battery Tender while it was still in the bike? |

Battery tender is useless if the storage place has no power outlet. |

No power outlets. No biggie though. As for serving, I do it. Because we can either fight them there or we can fight them here. Just glad to serve. Makes me feel a little more free when I'm out soaking up the miles and ripping up the curves. I think she'll be alright while I'm gone. Should I let some of the pressure outta the tires so they don't dry rot? |

Air in the tires will make no difference. Just leave her on the stands. I second that vote.. Thank you for having the balls to do what you do!!! |

+1 on just top off the tank to prevent condensation. Change oil & filter. At least disconnect the battery ground. There is some drain from the clock etc. Battery could stay in the bike if you like. Thanks for your service. Godspeed! |

If you think it might be more than an 8 month rotation, you should consider getting some cylinder fogger to prevent rust inside. Make sure the tires have correct pressure. Disconnecting the battery might be enough to keep it charged if the temperature is warm enough. And since it is likely that at least one valve might be open, you might consider putting a cap over the exhaust (plastic bag and rubber bands) and maybe the same over the throttle body. |

Bo_sox has it right. also you can used armor all to give it a protective coating for storage. |
