Trojan Horse has some cool Crash Bobbins for sale. Anybody have any dealings with these Bobbins or with LSL? How does Trojan deal with the exchange rate online? Thanks

Of course, if I call them Bobbins instead of Frame Protecters, I could get b*tch slapped by a bunch of street toughs on Vespas. .The streets can be cold and harsh on a guy with bobbins. |

I don't think I like the way they mount... but I'm not an engineer. I think CF sliders would work better. |

I've got a similar set of LSL sliders on my tuber . .. (got em from Daves whjen he was at Waterloo . .. . I'd try him at Appleton, just to see) . . . quality stuff, but no testing performed yet (fingers crossed) . . . . . you gotta watch out for those Vespa riders . . . .they're tougher than they look! |

Probably, but I ain't too concerned with a high speed slide as I am a parking lot tip over. I would take a cracked left case and engine mount over a damaged fuel frame! Besides that frame is too cool to cover up. |

These are also supposedly available in the states from: http://www.spieglerusa.com/cfm/FrameSliders.cfm and look to be a bit less expensive than getting them from across the pond..... |

Yeah, converting from pounds to dollars. 127.50 converts to 222.96 not including shipping. While the totals for even the most expensive titanium bobbin works out to 203.95 and the cheaper bobbins are 193.95. Time to call the locals! |

Well, I ordered them from a local shop called TK Motorsports. 10% off retail plus tax. Gettin the silver bobbins. There is a week back order on them though. So 2 weeks total for delivery. I will give a mini report on fit, finish and install. Then a major report on how well they work...NOT! |

Dave know what ya mean.Anything thats mounted to my motor to protect my bike doesn't look safe to me.One good pop and it looks like it would rip your motor up.Maybe thats why Hal's mounts them to the frame. |

Well, I didn't want to cover the frame with the cf sliders and the little nubs that attach to the frame look like they would add too much pressure to one spot on the frame in a parking lot drop so I figured damaging the left hand case or right hand side engine mount would be less catastrophic than frame damage. Less build up of momentum too since they sit lower. But I agree that a fully covered frame slider is the optimal solution. I do wonder if it will act like a fulcrum and tip the bike too. Well, someone has to guinea pig these doggies! Giddy yap! |

Novel idea... DON"T DROP YOUR BIKE IN A PARKING LOT!!! I know many people who have ripped on Forcewinder intakes because it would cause to much damage if you dropped the bike on that side. Why would you be dropping your bike anyway??? If you park your bike in a spot it may fall over, don't park there! As far as sliders go, if you lay your bike down on the track or street you are going to do damage anyway. Ripping into your motor would be just as bad as denting your frame. At least you can buy a carbon fiber cover for the frame rails. Am I way off base here??? |

There is no way I would bolt sliders to the motor or primary cover. Those mounts look chintzy & could cause a lot more problems then they would prevent. I still think the carbon fiber frame protectors are the best way to go or a set of knee pad sliders velcroed on the frame at the point of contact. |

Koz, Koz,.... Koz.A setup like what on Hal's race bikes may save you thousands. Those bobbins above appear to me like first they'll tear your motor mount apart along with the front head and then while your at it take a look at your frame/fuel tank is dented and scraped up any how. |

Well I have not ridden in two years. I don't feel comfortable riding at low speed taking left hand turns so I have been practicing in a parking lot. I am talking about a low speed tip over not parking. Sorry for not being clear. My old bike that I wrecked on was throwing oil all over the left hand side of the rear tire. Don't ask that b*st*rd bike should have killed me and almost did. I love my Buell. edited by raraf on May 25, 2004 |

All I am trying to say is that you don't ride a $8000 bike with the mindset that you are going to drop it. It would be much cheaper to buy a bike on Ebay for $1000 or less and beat the crap out of it learning how to ride. Once you feel comfortable, step up to a nicer bike. My first bike was an 84' Honda Nighthawk ($1200). I never dropped it, but I learned how to ride it long before I bought my Buell. (I did drop on of the blasts at Hals durning my MSF course) If I would have though, it would have been much cheaper then buying my Buell first and trying to repair it later! |

There are two types of riders. Those who have dropped a bike and those who will. I have never known anyone who planned on dropping the bike. (ok, one, but he doesn't count.) |

I agree. I rode the beater bike first. It wouldn't idle. threw oil, electrics would die for no reason. I ended up fighting the bike more than riding. I had one shot to get a bike that handled and didn't make a million HP but you sat upright and had a vtwin. Only thing close that I liked was the Duc (too much for valve adj.) and the SV1000 (quit making it and no one in CO had a new one for sale. FI was a requirement too. That I planned on keeping forever. I have a practice bike as well but it is a Rebel 450 and they are totally different riding styles. I went the cheap route didn't work. Got a nice bike and I am unlearning some bad habits pretty fast. Got past the fact that new bike doesn't have auto cancelling signals, idles at stops and you don't have to stand by the bike giving it gas till it warms up, etc. |

Koz I can't always sit on my bike in a parkinglot. The reference to a parkinglot fall isn't always due to a rider problem but to some jackass who can't leave your bike alone and knocks it over. Some idiot who backs into it in a huge SUV due to having to park in a regular space. That is what I was looking at when I saw those frame sliders. For a actual riding instance I would rather have the ones Hal's has. |

I am more worried about dropping my bike at parking lot speeds then at road speeds. |

I am totally carefull about where I park my bike. I know what yo mean about the blind SUV driver backing out while talking on a cell phone... In Wisconsin I feel bike are catered to much more then any other state. At the mall I park right up front, at festivals we get secured parking from Harley right up front, and a lot of bars have bike only parking (Mustang Shellys, Yesteryears, Fatboy Roadhouse to name a few). I guess I just use over cautious common sense when it comes to parking my bike. I don't even drive my bike to work since I would have to leave it outside overnight in an unsecured parking lot. Bummer to, I would love to save the gas money. As far as idiots go, I have been bitten. I had my 400hp 1978 Camaro hit by a softball at a tournament from a team taking batting practice in a closed archery range field. I walked over, picked up one of their bats and took on the whole team. No one would own up to the stupidity till the cops came. I still have that dent in my hood. |

Good luck with the Bobbins...mine have been on order for the last 2+ months...their supply chain sucks, but it appears my credit card was good enough to charge... Yes, I know it's not their fault, but they keep promising 2 weeks each time I email/call. Must be a language thing Was going to buy the CF covers, but now I'm worried I'd never see them if I paid for them.

We can only apologise again for the delays with the crash protectors. The demand was so great that the factory were taken by surprise and have been playing catch-up ever since. I spoke to them this week and have been promised (on pain of death!) that all our back orders will be despatched to us within the next 10 days. As soon as we get them we will ship them out by the fastest possible means. As far as the mountings go, they have been tested and do perform very well in what is described as low to medium speed accidents, such as the parking lot scenario etc. If you have a high speed accident it is unlikely that any type of frame protector will be much good. |

How well do they protect against a slide? The fall is minimal when leaned over in a corner so that wouldn't be a problem, but the slide? Has anyone tested that yet? |

Might be a good place for additional lights, too. |
