What are the significant ergonomic differences between the XB12Ss and the XT? I think the frames are the same? Longer suspenders? Seat and bars and different. Bottom line is that I like my Ss but would like to sit up a little straighter, have some wind protection, and have some luggage. I've dropped the pegs. I assume I could put taller bars on- will the cables/hoses reach? I also assume to put on XT luggage I'd need another tail section? Murf |

Froggy would be the pro in this catigory as he turned his ss into a xt. but it amounts to the seat, subframe, front fairing, handle bars, the peg mounts and possibly the suspension. |

I will be upfront - If you really want all that, trade for an XT. Cheaper, easier, and no hassles, but obviously not as fun has hacking bikes apart! Ergonomically, the Uly and Lightning series have different handlebars (Uly is quite a bit higher), Lower pegs (Uly has different peg mounts that drop the pegs several inches), and different seats (Most of the Uly seats are more plush, so they will raise you a bit, also reducing bend on your legs.) The suspension is different between the X, XT, SS, and STT. (Also depending on year), but that wouldn't affect the ergonomics. If you want the higher bars, the cheapest and easiest option is to get a riser block that mounts to the top triple tree. Other than that, you can swap in Uly bars, but be prepared to spend a bit of coin on new cables. If you want to use the XT luggage, you can either swap in the Uly tail section ($$$), modify your existing tail section to essentially make it a Uly tail ($$$ and fabrication). If you went either of these routes, you would have to get the Uly footpeg mounts as the luggage mounts to them. The most practical option is to get the Lightning luggage racks from Hepco & Becker, then get them modified to fit the SS tail. The front fairing swap is easy and bolts right on, hard part is actually finding one. It is something like $400 new for everything from a dealer if you want to go that route. I have done all the above to my bike, it was a fun and expensive adventure, but in all honestly, get the correct bike if possible. Before: After:

If you are serious about swapping over some (or all) of the parts, I will go into more detail, as not all of it is simple. |

You talked me right out of it- thanks. I like the Long but I've never kept any bike long enough to warrant the work you went through. I'll try and find the risers (maybe ebay?), order the plexiglass windscreen I saw somewhere a couple months ago, watch for the Long soft bags to come up again, and call it a day. Thanks again, Murf |

Murf, I went through the same decision process as you not long ago, with pretty much the same wisdom from Froggy. Just picked up some risers from Precision Engineering - easy to install and do make things a bit more comfortable. Any higher than 1" and I think you'll need new cables (at least brake). I tried rotating my brake lever a little closer to level and realized I was basically out of usable brake line slack. I also installed a TT seat that I picked up on eBay. That opened the legs up a bit. (Message edited by vospertw on August 23, 2010) |

Precision Engineering bar risers - http://www.preeng.com/xcart/home.php?cat=8 1", while not sounding like a lot can make a huge difference. I personally haven't done the swap, but my understanding is that you can use the 1" risers without swapping cables. For a windscreen, you can pickup adjustable brackets from Palmer Products. They require you drill into the flyscreen, but other than that they are fantastic. I ran that setup before switching to the Uly fairing. http://palmerproducts.auto.officelive.com/XBSTT.as px For bags, get a set of Cortech bags from Ft_bstrd. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/406 2/502250.html |

http://www.roxspeedfx.com/ ROX makes great handlebar risers. The ones I put on my 2010 Uly are great and the guy at ROX knew they were the max. offset I could get without buying new cables. Also, lowering Uly 1" gave improved handling and feel. Getting 50 mpg, added XT bags, bike near perfect for my tastes. Have extra Uly black windscreen, black air box cover, and XT saddlebags + mounts still in boxes could sell. |

Hey Froggy, or anyone else who may know. I have an 07 Super TT that I have added Uly pegs and peg hangers to already. I want to go to hard luggage, H&B probably. What would be the most effective way to do this? I assume I should use the Lightning mounts and mod as needed but am unsure do to the Uly passenger mounts Ihave now. Besides I know what can happen when I assume, Thanks! Murf2 |
