hi all : )
i have an 06 xb12r and was wondering what is the purpose of the trumpet / snorkel that is in the middle of the air filter seat?

if i remove it will it improve airflow or will if cause problems?

You mean the inverted nipple on the top of the cover, that points down at the throttle body? Leave that alone! : p

nah i mean the trumpet tube underneath the nipple... velocity stack?

It is called a velocity stack.

Yup, it has the functions of a velocity stack, as well as sealing the throttle body to the air box, and therefore not allowing debris into your engine.

Many people have cut the top of the velocity stack but the results are negligible. I cut mine off but ended up buying one of ebay to put in.

If the velocity stack was a little shorter and wider, the 9 would have a better midrange and possibly help with the 3k-4k hole.

They are referring to the Velocity stack. The snorkel is located on the earlier model XB's in the left side hole in the frame that acts as an air intake. It looks like this......
