Will a race ecm change the performance on a stock bike? Has anyone tried this on a dyno? |

well nobody seems to be using this thread, so i shall report here: saturday i had the race ecm on my xb12 reset( actually we SET the tps zero value, it cant be called a RE-set, because it is a new install) any way it runs absolutely perfect. an example of flawless fuel injection. i am very pleased. bike has k&n air filter, snokelectomy, a very sweet sounding DRUMMER exhaust can, and now the race ECM which starts, idles, cruises, and runs real good. the technician(mechanic they used to be called) let me watch and even help. i was the only one to actually touch the bike with wrenches. i undressed the bike, and closed the throttle, etc. the initial setting for the race ecm was only off by .2 degrees, and it ran very poorly..so apparantly this is a very critical setting. all good now. here, you may have your thread back now..........................dean |

Well, you did bring it back to the top. If only you would have dynod the bike with and without race ecm. But then again, your bike isn't stock either. Anyway, it's good to hear there's someone without problems on a 12 with race ecm. Anyone else that can answer my original question? |

My local shop says "the race ecm on a stock engine will drop power. The race ECM needs more air then the stock engine can move to keep from running overrich." It came up when I was thinking of picking up the race ecm for my 12 to go with the exhaust I am having made. |

Just out of curiosity, why on earth would you run a Race ECM WITHOUT a K&N and can? You'll lose the biggest advantage of the stock can - the xhaust valve - when you put the Race ECM in. On a 12, anyways. For a 9, spend another $100 and get a 12 airbox and K&N, at the very least, to allow the engine to breath more - but you still have a restrictive exhaust. |

I've been answering posts and they keep dissapearing. Let's see if this comes thru ... Darthane, I'm just curious that's all. Of course you're right about what you say. I got the race ecm 2nd hand and had to test it. I was stunned to see that the tps didn't need a reset and the bike ran perfect after a few minutes' ride (it wouldn't idle at first, that's all). What I noticed is that the bike runs a lot cooler than before and I'm getting much better mileage with the race ecm (~25 miles more on a tank). I know that last thing doesn't make sense at all but I'm positive about it. I tracked fuel usage. Anyway, I'll be changing back to stock to get it dynoed, then install the race ecm, my custom airbox mod and drummer and dyno it again after a 10-20 minute ride. |

For me it was going to be a matter of convenience. I was going to have the TPS reset done before putting the new exhaust on since I didn't want the dealer seeing the new exhaust. But that was also based on using what I have learned is a questionable dealer in practice that is not as Buell friendly as they seem. |

Ingemar, On my 2003 XB9S, the race ECM with stock everything exhaust gave me a solid 2HP and 2 lb-ft of torque all the way from idle to red line. If anyone is interested, I'll post the chart. Keith

Skully, I'd like to see that dyno chart. So you are saying the filter was stock as well, and snorkel left in, and stock airbox? Mike. |

Skully, Did the seat of pants dyno register it too? I'd be interested in the chart too. |

Geesh, the guy with a picture of guns in his BadWeB profile is calling me creepy? Ingemar- No, I could not tell a 2 HP difference in my "seat of the pants" dyno. If I had done some before and after top speed runs, I might have but there are many factors that could make that much difference. The test conditions are listed on the chart. Let me know if you have any questions. Keith

I like guns and I like Skully. But I have to admit, both can be scary at times. Like the time Skully released his own version of a biological weapon and cleared the entire 2nd floor, the entire engineering department, at Vertex. He's laughing right now as he reads this too, I guarantee you he is, the sick . That was one of his life's most memorable achievements and defining moments. If you ever find yourself in Skully's office, BEWARE!!! Do NOT EVER sit in his chair!!! If you do you will learn nausiatingly of a phenomenon known as "burping the chair." Is anything short of death worse than inhaling stale colon vapor? He's laughing again right now, I guarantee it. You are a sick man Skully! Donnie, those firearms are no match. Be afraid, be very afraid! |
