I removed the rubber insert ("snorkel") on my 03 xb9s thought this would put more air to the filter seeing as it is taking up space. I recently ran across someone selling one in the classifieds? Is there an advantage to having this in, should I put it back in the bike? What is the original purpose of it Sorry for the dumb question. Thanks for any info/help |

I think it's for intake noise reduction. I don't think it does much at all for or against your performance. |

Keep it out. Just for noise reduction. |

Didn't the race kit instructions say to take it out? |

It is there for noise reduction to pas EPA reg's. It is not needed. Removing it smooths out the low end power - leave it out. |

Picture? This is the rubber thing that runs through the frame from the left scoop to the airbox, yes? |

My friend took his out fro a 2004 XB12s. Last time I saw it, his kids were wearing it like a gauntlet |

IIRC when everyone started yanking these about 5 years ago, someone realized that the seal it makes at the top is a good thing, and the best thing to do was cut it so that just the top part is attached, but the tube part itself is removed. thats how mine is anyway... |

The seal makes no difference at all and is just there to allow it to join the airbox base. The air filter is 'downstream' of this part You can just junk the whole thing quite safely with no danger of unfiltered air getting into your throttle body . |

My snorkel is resting comfortably in bubble wrap along will all the other stock parts I took off to allow a possible future complete restoration with all original parts. |

I took mine out for better airflow, I would highly suggest it. |
