You have probably all answered these questions before. Flat spot at 4k to 5k after that it takes off again. It used to accelerate well from 4k onward. It all happened after i blipped the throttle at the lights and it had a massive back fire up through the air cleaner it nearly blew the damn cover off. Now on deceleration at the 4-5k mark i get loud crackling and popping. 1. I have changed the plugs with NGK DCPR8E and set the gap at .035 2. Drained fuel tank now it has had 3 tanks of fresh fuel though it. 3. Checked as best as i could for air leaks around manifold. Next thing is a TPS reset? or timing? and could a backfire like that with pressure coming back up with the throttle shut cause damage anywhere?. It was a blip throttle off and boom up through the air cleaner. Thanks for the help |

what setup u got? stock? k&N n pipe n ecm? id get a backfire like that sometimes n it would backfire n pop BAD when i had just k&n n pipe i added 12 airbox n took out snorkel and 95% of the backfiring is gone plus it COMPLETLY smoothed out the low end no more rough starts no more sputter below 2500 n the revs just seems to come up alot quicker edited by 420at145mph on May 22, 2004 |

How many miles since you cleaned or replaced your air filter? |

have the dealer check the o2 sensor wire, i had the same symptoms as you and they found it to be a incorrectly routed o2 sensor wire in that the insulation on the wire would rub off and ground out on the frame from the vibration... |

Check out the sparkplugwire of the front cilinder! It's possible that it rubs against wireloom. We've had a few overhere. |

NGK recommends a plug gap of 0.040 for the DCRP8E in the XB. Mike. |
