Depends on your powerband and weight placement. Get up to around 4kRPM, work the throttle a bit, off and whack it hard, as your weight gets left behind don't let go of the handlebars, if you've got the powercurve it will come right up, and possibly over or off line a bit depending on the direction of your weight control. Hint: it's more about unweighting than it is on pulling up on the bars. YMMV, and the closer you get to the equator the easier it gets due to centrifical force. (If the spell check is smart enough to tell me it's spelled wrong, how come it won't give me a hint about how to correct it? ) |

Try using the clutch method, grab the clutch, gas it til the revs come up then dump the clutch as you bounce it. Since I tend to just do power wheelies thats how I would float second and third on my 9 but couldn't for 4th or 5th. |

Well, You should be able yo pull it up going into second and third. Into second from 6K just blip the clutch a little as you shift and the flywheel inertia will bring the front up. Same thing going into third but it requires more throttle. Be careful on the first to second one though as the bike will actually lift the front with NO throttle at all (on my 12R anyway). Remember, cover the rear brake in case it gets outta hand and use it gently. The sign of a good wheelie is that you set the front down gently. |

I tend to avoid NcD, and usually try to avoid SfD as well for the most part. Actually, not really avoid them, just haven't gone out of my way to go ND yet. For Daves head east about 600 miles. There should be a few corners if you go through northern MN and then follow the mighty Mississippi to southeast Wisconsin, then by the time you get to Madison you may need a new set of tires, just follow hwy-151 from there almost all the way to Daves.

The parts are being shipped out today for you 420. Thanks for the Biz! As far as wheelies, although I have NEVER done one myself I have "heard" that if you wind it up to about 6000 in first and very quickly, shift into second they will stand straight up and possibly over for you. On a good day I(I mean someone else)can catch 3rd and ride to about 80 or so on the back wheel. I'm still figuring out the new 12 I'm riding. Ride to the edge! Dave daves@h-dappleton.com |

I have a problem with 2nd gear wheelies too. Not sure whats going on really, one minutes It comes up the next nothing. Not sure if I'm sat to far forwards or what, I used to be able to wheelie really good on my hornet 600cc, but this 9R is pissing me off in that respect, I thought all the torque and short wheelbase of this V-Twin it would be much easier. Maybe I just need to play a little more. |

Don't forget weight placement. Move your butt way back on the seat before you start to transfer weight back. Yea, IT WORKS! |

No, I meant blip... What I mean by that is to just pull it in a tiny bit (just enough to take the major portion of the strain of switching from first to second off the gearbox). Basically, pull it in just a bit and roll back to about 1/8 throttle very quickly (but smoothly) as you pull it in (only about 3/4" travel at the end of the lever) and switch to second. Dump the clutch just as you pop it into second and BE CAREFUL! Grip with the legs! Mine does this at 5K' elevation so it should be really easy near sea level. In any case - I'm not much for wheelies at all. I'm no good at them and you get better acceleration w/o them anyway. |

I have been working on bringing it up in 1st and switching to 2nd. It is rough. I am close though. I would really like to be able to bring it up in 2nd. No luck there yet. I'll work on some of your tips. |

420 if your looking for wheelie tips come north to winnipeg for a sunday night 75 to 100 bikes converge at a local diner then go for a good rip or come for a track day 1/4 mile straight away and it only costs $80 canadian for a weekend of track riding with instruction from local racers. rippin' up the prairies |

That scares me. Do you get to test-ride any sort of alien technology? And gee, I always though Area 51 was in the southwest, not South Dakota. Guess I need to brush up on my geography. |

What, are you on night shift? It must be 0200 there. Make sure to protect the nukes from the Canadians. They're dangerous... |
