hey all, just looking for some ideas. my 07 12r has a k&n filter and drummer. i decided to cut open the upper airbox. wow!! it pulls a hell of a lot harder at the low rpm's, just like i wanted. i don't care if my max speed dropped, i just love the power down low where i can actually use it. the only problem i have now is that it'll make a pop from the intake and then the bike will stumble a little. gonna reroute the oil recirc lines tomorrow. beside that, i'm certain the ecm still has the factory tune on it. i have the cable and ecm spy. would flashing the race tune onto the ecm help make the stumble subside? i know the reroute will help some. my only downer is that i have to do a lot of slow speed putting around, so she don't really like it. when i run the hell out of her and hit the throttle hard, pretty much beating her up for about 15 hard minutes, she runs a hell of a lot better. any ideas? i haven't found any intake leaks or anything else yet. kinda stumped. thanks all. |

Don't "blip" the throttle |

thanks glitch. i don't rev the motor unless i'm accelerating. no use in wasting the gas, not to mention fouling the plugs way sooner. |

Fouling the plugs......IF...this IS happening....then the mapping is wrong...period. Don't ya just love people that do things cause others do and really don't know why..? Sorry Dh...but you gotta understand the why's and wherefore's of performing a given modification (or three!) before you do them... This is so's you might understand any problems that may pop-up..! As for "opening" up the intake...do you know just how "small" the throttle (butterfly) actually is..? I'd bet your new found performance is just in your ears. Loud sometimes = faster... This "airbox opening" modification...if it helps at all....mathmatically, it would be at higher RPM.., not lower RPM..! Mike |

Dave, your profile shows you have the Race ECM, your message says it's stock, you may want to look into this. As for the "pop" and stumble, these long-stroker 12's just do this unless maybe it's tuned just perfectly (which seems to be an issue for everyone). Once it happens to you once, you'll look for it and almost instigate the problem. I know, i did it too. A breather reroute may help but besides that slowly raise the RPM's to >2 before really laying into it. Sorry i don't have the advise to solve your problem but frankly i'd be stunned if anyone does. |

So here's the deal. I bought the bike and was told it had the race ECM. After looking at the EEPROM and fuel map, it is obviously not a race tune. I plan to retune it next weekend if I get the time. Time has definitely been at a premium lately. I did reroute the recirc lines. It helped a lot. The front wheel now starts boincing trying to come off the ground at about 4500 rpms. Before, it popped up around 5500. As far as the stumble goes, it almost stalls the motor sometimes. It'll drop to almost 500 rpms then pop back up. Only happens every now and then though. I'm in love with my bike, she runs like a champ. But she stumbles and it's driving me nuts. |

I understand what your going through. I bought my bike in the same situation yours is in and im just now starting to address it. In your case a Drummer Race ECM might be in order. im working on some remapping tomorrow but Im not going to give advive beond that cause I dont know much, but I know i love my bike and would like to have mine fine tuned as well. Mine is still very fun to ride. I just have to butterfly the throttle one second before I want to go from start after that im great. its that cough and choke at first twist. |
