Just got through installing the '09 1125 LED rear signals on all four corners of my '06 XB12Ss.
These are the new versions I just received from Precision HD. You will need a new flasher relay if do not want to send other motorists into an epileptic seizure everytime you signal.
Rear with left replaced:
1125 signals come with 2 female connectors while the stock harness on my XB have 1 male positive and 1 female ground. Judicious use of pliers can bend the ground connector in on itself to fit the female connect. Kinda like 'shaved his legs and then he was a she.'
I've read concerns about reversing polarity and in my application the black lead on the signals mapped perfectly to the black ground on my harness in every instance.
On my tail chopped rear I needed to trim about 1/16" of the post closest to the mounting bolt on the right signal to fit(apologize for bad pic):
Did you try it with the stock flasher? I believe that the 1125s have the same flasher as the XBs, and that the lights have the resistors built in. I installed 1125CR mirrors (with integrated led turns) and 2010 1125 rear turns onto my Uly, and they flash normal with the factory flasher.
I have read mixed reports on whether you need a different flasher or not, some people need it while others don't. I think it may be that you can get away with one LED on each side, but switching both to LED causes the fast blink.
They are connected to the stock flasher now. I wanted to give it a try in case there was built-in resistance(as some have said) in the new signals that would help work. I've left her open so I can install the new LED flasher I ordered when it comes in.
I had the fast blinking on the left side with the install of just the 1 blinker in the 1st picture. Right side was fine until I installed a new blinker there as well.
With all 4 installed they are all in hyper drive. On my bike the side w/the new flasher did not care whether there was front or rear was installed = fast blink.
I’m not interested in soldering resistors in place when a simple $20 part will plug right in.
I jokingly titled this thread ‘kinda definitive’ since I hadn’t seen anything else the board with these specific mods on an XB12Ss. Obviously this is only ‘definitive’ for my bike but hopefully this information will help others.
I have not seen any aftermarket leds be ok....they all make them flash fast. But I am assuming that the 1125 lights have the resistors built in, as they do not make mine flash fast.
Here is my setup: '06 Uly, stock flasher '09 1125 CR mirrors and front led signals '10 1125 rear led signals
I think you made the wiser choice. Admittedly, Tripp at Precision HD tried to talk me out of the LED's and go with the incandescent signals but as I told him this would just give me a chance to spend more time in the garage and drink beer.
Andy,
Not sure why the stock resistors aren't doing it for me on my bike, just consider yourself $20 richer in the wallet.
The 1125's blink rate is controlled by the cluster.
To the OP,
Take a trip down to your local auto parts store and pick up an EP-36. My local Pep Boys had them in stock. Perfect, just like stock. I've had the 1125 LED's on all four corners of both my XB's. Both required the flasher.
I actually called the few Napa Parts that were open on Sunday as well as Pep Boys, O'Reilly, and Autozone. None of them had it in the Houston area so went ahead and ordered it online.
Been so hot and wet lately(easy fellas, not what you're thinking) that I won't miss the bike for the week it takes to get the part in.
Shame, because it would have saved you $$. I think I paid $10-12 locally and had it ASAP. Surprising for Houston. I used to live there, and it seemed like anything I wanted was available somewhere NOW. Oh well. That'll fix you up!
