Wrapped my headers with the DEI titanium header wrap. Really like it, easy to work with, don't have to wet it or paint it, looks good (for header wrap), and really seems to help with the right side heat. +++ jpeg +++ 580828 +++ DEI Header Wrap +++ (Message edited by ridesinnm on July 16, 2010) |

If you have to do it, this way looks as good as it can get. i guess if a right side scoop does not do it for you then wrap it is. I used to want to wrap my headers but i polished them once and the look so good i went with the right side sccoop instead. I am sure yours are putting off less heat by having them wrapped. |

That looks so good, I had to see what it would look like on mine.

Looks as good on yours as it does on mine. BrightBuell, I put the Buell RSS on mine before I did the wrap. The RSS really cut down on the fan running and probably the seat didn't get as hot, but it seems like the wrap really cut down on the heat on my leg. |

DEI sent me a FREE roll of this after I had problems with their other wrap. I haven't put it on yet as I'm in the middle of some other stuff including DEI heat reflecting insulation on the seat and airbox, I'll do the header again when I drop the motor to get the insulation on the frame. The biggest reason I put the wrap on the headers was so that casual/accidental contact wouldn't burn a hole in my textile pants. You still can't grab it while the engine is running, but quick contact no longer produces an instantaneous blister giving you enough time to pull away. I didn't notice much difference in the heat on my leg except moving really slowly or stopped at a light. |

I was thinking about black ceramic coating my headers, but the more I look at that photoshopped pic of my bike with that wrap, them more I am liking it, plus it is a LOT cheaper! Thanks Ridesinnm! |

so how many rolls did it take to do the headers. I see that they have 2inx15foot rolls. Did you use the 15 foot rolls?? |

You will use both rolls and have a few feet left from each. |

I used about 30-35 feet of a 1 inch x 50 foot roll the first time. |

Hey, Ridesinnm how much was that and was it hard to do yourself? I have been wanting to wrap the headers on my bike for a while now. |

I bought a 50ft roll, not knowing how much I was going to need, and I have 28ft left. I did it in two pieces, probably about 8 or 9 ft for the rear pipe, and 13ft or so for the front pipe, and all the way down to the muffler clamp. I used the 2"wide. The 50ft roll cost me $48.80 incl. shipping. Two 15ft rolls would be about right. Daschunk, super easy to do. It's not messy, and probably take less than 2 hours. I did it with the headers still on. Wrapped it a couple wraps, put on a metal zip tie, and slid it up to the top. If you want some help, or to see it, let me know. I will probably do the track day Saturday, if you are going. |

I will be there on Saturday. Some pointers would be nice. Gotta break in the new leathers too. I should be there at about 0645 or 0700 in about the same place as last time. Feel free to hang with me, the Buellers need to stick together. |

I know nothing about wrapping headers, so I've got a question. I see most people start at the head and go down. Would it work better if you went up the pipe instead? Seems like it might shed water better. Murf2 |

If you use the header wrap with the high temp silicone spray you will not need to worry about how well it will shed water. If you wrap from the can to the exhaust port the wind might catch the over lap. You have to put the wrap on as tight as you can get it or once it dries it will loosen up. I don't think you have to soak the titanium wrap though. |

Murf, if I had the headers off, I would have gone from the bottom up, but the best way to get all the way to the top seemed to be starting as high as you can, make a couple wraps, and slide it up. Didn't think I could get all the way up, otherwise. Besides, I live in New Mexico. |
