street riding? Just got bsck from a ride, and the XB just doesnt enjoy going 55mph or slower. highway speed here is 55, and it feels like riding in slow motion. I also rode some nice winding roads, but very low posted speed limits and tons of traffic. Sure you have the option to break speed limits, which we all do sometimes, but thinking about getting ticketed spoils the fun factor. | ||

Stop worrying about getting a ticket and find better roads to ride, or trade the XB in on a Blast or a 250 streetbike. Also think about a track day. I doubt any XB riders actually ride the speed limit unless they spot law enforcement or get stuck in traffic. (Of course, I personally never exceed posted speed limits. No sir I don't.) Mike. | ||

the good bike riding roads are patrolled even more. lots of Navy riders (squids) in this area. the police have their ears pricked up all the time. I do Have a blast also. Very fun to ride, but I always end up wishing i was on the XB. Our area is so crowded here. Very large tourist spot. Had a girl pulling out of my neighborhood thursday afternoon, T-boned by another car, DOA. Lots of cars, tons of huge 4x4s, mega amount of HDs, lots of squids...2 tons of cops. don't get me wrong, I love My bike, I just wish I could flog it more often...  | ||

Can't say I've ever wished I was on the XB when I was riding the Blast. Ridin's ridin', and the Blast is a fun little scoot. That said, when I'm on the XB, I want to be GOING. Luckily the cops in Michigan are generally laid back, and our speed limits are in the upper area of the USA's. The downside is the roads here blow, for the most part. | ||

The downside is the roads here blow, for the most part. Understatment of the year. Coming out of Canada into Detroit has to be the worst road in the entire USA. I swear the potholes were a foot deep & 3' across. | ||

LOL...Dyna, when was this? They're doing major freeway work in the Detroit area in preparation for the Super Bowl coming here soon. ...course, the next year they'll be •••• again. Even most of our surface streets are horrible. Just what the hell ARE they spending all our tax dollars on, and MI has some of the highest vehicle registration costs in the country, as far as I can tell. You'd think that money would go straight back into the roads... | ||

No problems out here, and I'm still breaking mine in. Only 85 miles left and I can open her up. Hell I can have fun on my 12 doing 25 - 35 on the downtown loop, never thought about it before until today when I was riding with Charlieboy, (did I say I we were only a block or two away from the Sherrif's dept, courthouse etc..and posted speed limit is 15, and this is like a small loop), just lean over, have fun, and go go go. Dangit, I needs to get some knee sliders if I keep this up. I don't think I'm getting that low but it's tempting me. Charlieboy you need some. | ||

That was in 99 I believe, rode down south & then came up the east coast & into Canada via Niagara Falls & then back into the US thru Detroit. I have never ever been on a stretch of road that was in such •••• poor shape. I have spent a little time in Detroit & it was a horrible city..at least the areas I saw. Back behind old Tiger stadium, just about getting stuck up while buying gas near some dump called the Cadillac strip club or something like that. 3 worst towns I have ever been in.. #1. East St Louis #2. Cincinnati #3. Detroit | ||

Gone, Virginia Beach? You are just going to have to head West. Or head up northwest and meet with us in the DC area, plenty of good roads up here. One thing you could do when you are riding around town is shifting the bike no higher than 3rd gear maybe. Keeping the rpms up increases the noise and the sensation of speed, that might help to keep you awake, if traffic does not do that already. | ||

dyna. Im gonna assume you came via the ambassador or through the tunnel. those arent that bad compared to most of the other spots around here. I do alot of traveling and you will find that every state thinks 1. there weather is unpredictable. 2. they have the best drivers. 3. their roads are trashed. I will say that michigan has the worst roads i have ever driven on. we allow semi trucks to carry 3 times the load weight over any other state. we also have the most obese people i have ever seen allthough we are rated 3rd but i think we are moving up in that poll. | ||

Absolute worst road I've ever been on was in Saskatchewan, north of Port of Oungre, opposite N. Dakota. HUGE bike swallowing potholes every 3 feet. When you see a red diamond reflector on s short post next to the road in Canada, it means really big pothole HERE! Posted speed limit was 50 kmph, and the Harley's gauge is only in mph. I was lucky to make 25-30 mph. worst towns I have ever been in...#1. East St Louis ditto Keeping the rpms up increases the noise and the sensation of speed ditto. I do the same thing where the Presence of The Law in imminent. | ||

All states have unpredictable weather, just some are worse than others at certain times of the year... 2. The midwestern states have the best drivers, but the worst roads... 3. When I say best/worst roads, I mean physical surface and quality... not the ride. You just can't compare scenery... Also, a disclaimer...the south has the best roads........if they're actually paved... | ||

Chainsaw...bad roads in Saskatchewan!!!???Actually, the whole damn province of Saskatchewan is one large pothole! But, then again, some of the most pleasant people on the planet live there. Go figure! Actually, we Canadians keep the roads in Saskatchewan in such unbelievably bad condition to keep you Yanks out of the province of British Columbia...that way, we keep all the best roads uncongested for ourselves! Oh, and in Alberta, the speed limit is 70mph on major highways, but everyone does 80mph, and 100mph on secondaries where there are no donut shops for the cops to hang out in! | ||

when i lived in alaska there was a pothole right in downtown anchorage that actually ate a car we came up on the tow truck pullin it out thing musta been 2n half feet deep n about 5 foot across imagine hittin that doin 60 or so | ||

I stopped at a liquor store in Saskatchewan to look for a souvenir t-shirt, and got to talking to to locals loading beer in their trunk. They were giving shirts away with each case of Molsen at the store, and the locals gave me their freebie t-shirt.  | ||

Gonen60- maybe you need some forward controls and a set of apes to up the diffficulty level?  I've been exploring the close roads lately. Sunday I spent about an hour on roads zoned 25, but all of the corners are marked 10 or 15. Second gear can be fun too. | ||

Well I am to scared any more to speed on my bike. The last time I went out riding I got a ticket that cost me $450 my drivers liscence and 4 days in jail and all I was doing was speeding. not to mention it was my first offense. That is in the same are gonen rides in. so I feel where he is coming from on this one. | ||

I can agree with being alert for cops. Got my bike in August had it for 2 weeks and got a ticket. Just got my license back 1 month ago, I can say after the first offense you turn your head and look just to be sure you dont have a blue light special following you. |
