Does anyone else get detonation after sitting at idle for say 5 minutes or so then you go to take off and get some detonation or pinging when you rev over a certain rpm?

Its like the motor gets heat soaked and doesnt retard enough timing or something. Should I be removing timing or adding/removing fuel in the trouble spots with ecm spy?

This happens only in the summer. Bike is an 06 XB12 with latus muffler and race ecm.

depending on ecm data you first need to check the static timing on the bike. make sure the cam sensor is in the correct location. see the ecmspy v2 manual for setting cam position on this year bike.

If its still pinging you have two things to check. fuel and timing. make sure your fuel is not excessively lean and timing is not to advanced. I see more timing to advanced and cam sensors position off than you may think.

If you dont check the engine first you are shooting in the dark at fixing it.

Looks like you were right Xopti. The timing is advanced. The tail end of the timing line only covers 2 lines from the left of the sight window.

I need to find a thread on how to adjust the timing.
