Dudes- I am here at Camp Taji in Iraq for at least another year, and I can no longer take the strain- not combat, but the strain of missing MotoGP on TV!!! Also, I just read the "Formula Extreme Race on Now" thread and I'm gonna be sick! I gotta see these races! I have a laptop for DVD's, but I will crap a VCR if I have to. Can anyone help me? I'll even help with cash for the trouble! Shipping only needs to be paid to the APO in New York, so it's not too much. Thanks, Bros!!! Sherm |

Somebody please burn Sherm a DVD and get it into the mail. I don't have the capability to burn DVD's, yet. Sherm, It's the least we can do for you. God bless, and thanks for checking in and letting us know what's up. |

Anyone got a point of contact for Speed Channel, bet they'd hook him up. I just went to their website and used that to contact them asking them for assistance, don't know what good it will do. I'll look around. I'd gladly do it, but don't have the capability. If we could talk Speed Channel into doing it, hopefully they can send him footage to all the races, hey, maybe some NASCAR, etc.. edited by Southernmarine on May 12, 2004 |

Isn't it illegal to duplicate copyrighted material without express written consent of the owner??? |

As long as you are not looking to make a profit from it. |

I believe it's only illegal if you use it for profit or gain, and should be fine to burn to send for someone's private viewing !!

Not entirey true. If you want to stay squeaky clean then get permission first. "For profit" is only one part of the issue, otherwise why have so many music download sites been shut down? Even personal use for friends has been cracked down on. |

I tape the moto GP races for my firebolt riding friend, floating around out in the Gulf for the next 4 months. I can only tape one at a time. I had to search threw my attic, to find a VCR, I thought I got rid of all of them, since DVDs took over. someone help our Buell Brother out in IRAG |

You may be right mikej, but if I could do it I would (don't have a burner), and I wouldn't worry about "permission", just cause that's how I am. Of course if they ever threw me in jail over it, I might change my tune, but I just don't see where anyone would make a fuss about it !?? CJ |

Just put 5 minutes of "home" video on it then fade into the racin' stuff. "Movies from home, and how'd that other stuff get on there?" The video of Erik speaking at the 20th would be a good home video intro from what I've been told of it. |

I emailed someone at Speed Channel's website, I got one response back, not positive. I emailed them again, but haven't heard back. Hopefully they'll be able to do something. Said that they didn't have rights to copy the series (races). I emailed them back asking them to copy footage of "their shows" covering the events. I was real nice and polite trying to explain the situation. We'll see, if that doesn't work we'll try other means. |

there is no problem, taping something in your own home for personnel use. Hey, I'm lending the tape to my friend, Big Deal. your not selling it. People tape shows everyday, all day. |

He'll get to see the commercials too right? They won't care. It's for personal use, not for commercial distribution. Can you imagine if the media got hold of a story that SpeedTV was suing a soldier in Iraq over having arranged to record a DVD of a race? And said soldier is a loyal subscriber to SpeedTV at home? Ain't gonna happen. Someone who has SpeedTV and a DVD burner please help us out here! |

Isn't the military's new motto "don't ask, don't tell?" I won't tell if you don't... |
