If it's to help cool the engine, I would think that taking out this piece will expose the engine to the air more effectively. Anyone remove this piece. I had the same feeling about the tins in one of my VW bugs. Took the tins off and the engine ran way hot. It may expose the engine more with less effective air flow. I'd leave it alone. I've looked at it from the front and it seems there's hardly any opening at the front to cause air to flow through the gap. Oh well, thanks for the info guys. I'll leave it alone. I was wondering if putting a bigger shroud like the one on the left side will help the engine run cooler and keep the fan OFF.
