I posted a few weeks ago about a strange engine noise in my 12R (39,000km) and made a video of it. Here's the noise: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lE-1zbiWIaI One of the diagnoses was the front conrod bearing. I've since removed the front cylinder and found no play in the up and down motion of the connecting rod. After removing the rocker arm shafts I found that they have worn on one side creating a slight groove. PICS Below. Is this the cause of my noise? or just usual wear? Im still yet to check the rear cylinder and will do soon. What do you guys think? Sorry only links to pics: http://www.bikepics.com/pictures/2002933/ http://www.bikepics.com/pictures/2002928/ |

that looks like normal wear, measuring it is the only real way to tell, if it is with in .001 + or - of the unworn section than they are probably still good |

the video sounds like a plugged/clogged lifter to me... but youtube and chika chicka are hard to diagnose... What did it ride like? |

I just noticed some small wear grooves in the front of the front cylinder. They are big enough to be felt with your finger. They are most noticeable at the very bottom and about 3/4 the way up the front wall of he front cylinder. How much wear is normal? Is this excessive ? The bike was running fine before I dismanteled it. It was just the noise that was bothering. Something was clearly wrong. |

if you have 5-10k thats normal wear, as long as you have compression you are fine. If you want to completely check your top end, completely disassemble it to the top end and remove both cylinders, replace both pistons get a valve job and replace the lifters, and lifter blocks and pushrods, also check and replace any worn parts in your oil pump and drive assembly with seems to fail alot and also remove the cams and check for wear. |
